Asus EN9600GT TOP and ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe

I got this card to replace my 7900GS, mainly due to price compared to other cards. Removed old drivers, shut down, and swapped out cards. During post, I'm getting 1 long and 3 short beeps(asus tech support said that mobo is not detecting card).

1 Sata DVD burner
Antec Smartpower 500W


Asus tech support(which sucks btw) claims that my psu is insufficient for the 9600gt, but the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite and my system config comes to a whole 352 watts.
Even at max power draw and 20% cap aging its only 407 watts.

I just want to know if the 9600 is going to work with the A8N mobo.

The most common causes of cards not being recognized are:
1. DOA card. The only way to test this is to plug it into another PC
2. You not plugging in cables to extra power connectors on the back of the card. Sometimes the card works and just gives you a low power warning but sometimes it does not.
3. Low power.

Support people like to blame #3 since it gets you off the phone, but the other two are more common.

So does your card have a power socket and did you plug in a molex or 6pin cable? Is it a good connection?

The motherboard may be needing a bios update . Old motherboards tend to have some compatibility problems with these new video cards that are PCI-Express 2.0 compatible. Try that and see how it goes, because you have more then enough power with that PSU.

yes, the 6 pin connector is plugged in. The support guy kept telling me that this card draws more power than the 8800 series, but the nvidia reference says 95 watts under load.

there is a bios update available, (Fixed Silicon 3114 RAID mode fail when using ASUS EN7950GX2 PCIE VGA Card.)
not sure if this really will help, but cant really hurt i guess.

What a load of crap, everyone keeps saying this.

These card are built on a smaller Die scale (55nm?) and run leaner and cooler than the 8800 series. When they first came out I think there was a power regulation or card BIOS issue that could give the Black Screen of Death.

I thought I saw some where on here that the 9600's are basically just half an 8800 GT/GTS (new ones) - so how the hell is that going to consume more power than a full 8800?

Some of these Tech support people really torque me off . . . as if you couldn't tell

I've confused tech support once again. I can sometimes get the mb to register the card, but only if I put the card in the second PCI-E slot, but if I do that it only runs in x1 mode which is kinda pointless. Was only able to get this far by flashing the bios to V1805. I'm starting to think that one or the other doesn't quite comply with the PCI-E standards. It's the only thing that makes sense.

I have a similar setup to yours, except I have an A8N5X and a 420 or 450 watt Antec Truepower, an Opty 146 and two DVD burners. I just picked up a 9600GT yesterday and it chugs along without any problems. So, as everyone said, it is definitely not your PSU. FWIW, I did not update the bios and the 9600 replaced an X850XT.

I think its the MB that doesnt comply with the standard. When I got it the Nforce 4 chipset was brand new, and I had to rma the first board and cpu when the bios set the a64 3200 to over 3Ghz and fried it.

I installed my GTS in my old A8N SLI Deluxe mobo. It worked no problem with an Enermax 465 watt psu.
It should work with 9600GT
