Greetings...

A co-worker gave me his EeePC 900 to look at because it won't boot. He apparently broke the power cable and completely drained the battery dry. After borrowing another cable (from another PC900) we can get the computer to boot into the BIOS but if you try a normal boot it get's a Disk Read Error and won't boot further. It's an SSD. Am I missing something, or is the Windows install corrupted beyond recovery?

Thanks.

PS: Tried Reset Button and Power Button Reset Method... no fix.

Something doesn't make sense. Laptops are set to shut down before the battery is completely drained. If your friend overrode such power management settings, and the system lost power in the middle of read/writes to the SSD, it is possible it could have been corrupted.

Can you boot to the OS DVD/CD and reinstall?

BTW, how can you "break" a power cable? A connector, yes - the cable?

Dunno how he broke the cable, but he did... I haven't actually seen it myself. He told me he was working on it when the battery went totally dead... I don't know how he did this with the Power Settings, alarms and such. My feeling is the SSD got corrupted, but I told him I'd try to revive it before a re-install of the OS.
