ASUS EeePC 1000HE Battery not charging

The Problem

The computer was working normally ... the battery became low and I plugged in the adapter to charge the battery.

With the adapter plugged in the CHARGE light on the computer did NOT come on.

The light on the adapter is ON.

I removed the battery and replaced it and the CHARGE light did not come on.

I removed the battery ... and plugged in the adapter and it did not supply power to the computer.

My trouble shooting

(1) I have used another charger adapter which did NOT charge my battery through my computer. The blue light on both adapters/chargers come on when it is plugged in BUT there is no indication on the computer that it is attached to the AC outlet OR that the battery is charging.

(2) I also sent my battery to be charged on another Eeepc 1000HE and the battery came back fully charged

(3) My computer worked normally after installing the now fully charged battery in it BUT the charger/adapter is still not charging my computer.
There is no indication that the battery is being charged although the computer is working normally and the battery showed 97% charged.


My initial conclusion
(a) The battery and the computer seems to be working fine.
(b) It seems to me that there is a problem with the computers BATTERY CHARGER BOARD.

Has anyone had this problem and what further trouble shooting can you recommend? What was the solution? Is is an easy DIY fix?

Hi, had the same problem.
What they told me is same as
"(b) It seems to me that there is a problem with the computers BATTERY CHARGER BOARD."

the problem is that this is attached to the motherboard, no spare part so you have to replace the motherboard wich costs more than the computer itself over here...

Can anyone confirm that what they told me? sounds like bogus...

Seems to me that the small pin on the laptop my be loose therefore your adapter is unable to charge or even turn on your laptop. Have you tried using your adapter on someone elses 10' laptop and does it charge there laptop? If so there lies your problem that you will have to send the unit in for repair.

I had exactly the same problem. I thought it was something to do with the pin because jiggling it around sometimes got it working again. But after a few times, it stopped charging entirely.

Some trawling on the internet revealed that this adapter problem was fairly common - in fact I didn't even have to trawl the internet - I had recommended the Asus eee PC to a friend ... and to my embarrassment this problem happened.

I recommended the eee PC to my friend because I was happy with my XP machine. However when I upgraded to a Windows 7 Seashell version, there were many irritating things about the new machine - including the fragile adapter with the tiny pin plug.

My friend spent a £100 trying to get a laptop company to repair the problem but after a brief interval it wasn't charging again. The company said the adapter was so fragile that they recommended carefully removing it when moving the laptop around while plugged. WTF!!!!

Luckily my son had an older generation eee PC - it had the sturdier adapter with the transformer (is that what it's called?) box (the one I had didn't have this and feels distinctly less robust). We are now sharing the adapter which does work with my machine. Perhaps you could source an older adapter from eBay

I am so disappointed that eee PC after it's successful first few models downgraded a lot of parts - because I've bought in total three now, I could see how they progressively used cheaper materials. The adapter is a case in point but the keyboard is also of cheaper quality (you actually have to type with force), as is the hinging of the laptop which is now restricted to limited angle. What a shame - I'm never going to buy another Asus again.

I've been thrilled with my Acer Aspire One AO722 machine. C-60 dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD. HDMI and webcam included. (Skype pre-installed, works pretty nicely.)

I've noticed that my power jack is a tad loose too, and it worries me. I don't know if I damaged it, moving it around while plugged in, or if it is supposed to be like that (to prevent breakage, possible a separate board for the power jack and it's just loose).

Hello VirtualLarry,

When you have it plugged it and you move the laptop around have you notice if the battery symbol changes to battery or not.

If you move it around and the battery symbol does not change seems that the pin on the adapter connection may be loose that you will have to purchase another one.

If you move the laptop around and the battery symbol changes to pluged in then battery sounds like the pin connected to the board may be loose that you will have to send the laptop in for service so they can resolder the connector or replace the connector.
