Not sure but I did read on another forum about some people not able to use an extension to charge the tablet. I also used a different power adapter with the proprietary usb cable and that did not work as well. I wonder why Asus did it this way. I can't even find a spare usb cable/charger for the unit anywhere online.

you must use USB 3.0 cable ... even then, some cables are finicky. I got this cable from amazon, and it works like a champ.

Searched around on XDA and apparently the USB 3.0 extender will work to charge the Transformer. However USB 2.0 extensions will not work.

EDIT: What he said. ^

Anyone know what class of micro sd card is best for this? I know that faster usually better (especially if you stick it in a PC) but sometimes the device is limited to a i/o of slower than a class 10 card.

Managed a snag 32gb model last night from the local Frys. Their site shows several locations that are scattered around SoCal that have them. Doesn't seem like you can have it shipped though. They didn't even have one on display. Bought it blindly from the raves and reviews. Many seem to notice creaking when handling the device by the bottom edges and I noticed it on mine as well. No backlight bleeding as far as I can tell though. The textured back is nice because it provides better grip and doesn't feel like its going to slip out of your hands.

FYI, if anyone has backlight bleeding, it is considered by Asus as a hardware defect, and you should be able to setup an RMA for it if it bothers you.

I have 4 small spots where the backlight is bleeding. Not sure it bothers me enough to try to RMA it though.

I got my first notification from nowinstock that the 16G tablet was in stock at Sears. I clicked the link within 15 seconds of getting the e-mail and it was out of stock.

The local Fry's has the 32G in stock, but I don't want to pay $500+tax.

EDIT: Sigh, got another e-mail from nowinstock for Walmart. Within 10 seconds I had it in my cart. When I clicked proceed to checkout I get a message that it is out of stock again.

yea mine has a couple that i can only notice if i have a flat black image up, pretty impressed with it so far, some app incomparability but thats not its fault

was unsure if it was going to be able to play MKV files but it seems to be doing that just fine, great little consumption device

Did you get the dock as well? What is the most impressive thing to you about it? Trying to decide if i want one or to use the NC for now until the fall...

no because the dock is just as unavailable as the tablet, it IMO is incredibility smooth and quite fast, didn't have any issues with the bulk DLing and installing/moving around of aps and widgets, hasn't crashed yet, the screen is great. its played everything ive tried just fine using MoboPlayer,

file transfer isnt the fastest so Ive yet to try something huge (1080p) but i will this weekend.

runs faster then my phone over the same wifi network

3.0 is pretty different the then 2.x versions. will be interesting to see when that next iteration bings to phones, its setup more like a pc desktop then the phones are, feels that way to me anyway

as you have a NC and the tab is near impossible to get your hands on you might as well wait till the fall, itll be more available then and the galaxy tab will be out which is supposed to be quite nice

it plays 1080p alright it however is somewhat picky in how you encoded it, im thinking a different player might solve it

anyone recomend something for playin vids that will internally handle most codecs

does VLC work on android?

It's Tegra2. It has trouble playing H264 720p high profile. It's hardware related, not software. Big reason Tegra2 is major fail.

Had a 720p mkv but it won't recognize the format. Converted it to mp4 but will only play 4 sec and stop. I then converted using Handbrake and using iPad and h264 as configuration. It was going to take ~4 hrs so I stopped it and tried using mpeg4 which brought it down to ~40 mins. It plays perfectly but PQ isn't too great. Will have to play around with the encoding a bit more to get the perfect balance between size and PQ.

There was a VLC for iOS, but it got killed because supposedly it broke the license agreement for the VLC software? I assume this means there wouldn't be an Android one either.

RockPlayer is the closest thing to VLC I've found for Android.

Is there a player for android that will allow you to play a video from a network share without downloading it first?

There are a bunch of DLNA clients, dunno about playing straight off a share though.

It's in stock right now at Newegg (32GB) and Best Buy (16GB)

Best Buy has been able to stay in stock all evening. Hopefully this means that the shortage is coming to an end. I've decided to hold out until Amazon gets the 16G in stock. I have a gift card and I do not want to pay tax.
