I am building 2 Pcs for Dragon Naturally Speaking Med 9..I have no need 3D/games just a good 2D video card

I run winxp..I may eventually move to Vista

Would this card be fine for 2D use(I realize it would not work with Vista Aero..fancy desktop stuff)

it would be a disadvantage, since its using the system memory...i would personally stay away from gpus that say "turbocache" or "hypermemory" on them. if you have 1GB-2GB of system memory already and you have no other choice on the card (aka, it has turbocache/hypermemory on it), i guess it would be fine since the system already has more than enough memory for xp.

I just built a system for my dad a few weeks ago & used an Asus 7300LE for video ... he wanted me to install XP Home for him, but just for the heck of it I loaded up Vista Home right after slapping it together & it ran Aero just fine ... in fact it ran everything a lot better then I expected. (X2 4000+ Brisbane w/2gb PC6400)

The 7300LE uses Nvidia's version of Hyper-memory called Turbo cache, but the Asus version has 128mb's onboard which is plenty for a none-gaming PC's use & you can adjust the amount of system memory reserved for video use in the driver to zero if you choose.
