Asus EAH4850 1GB Running WAY TOOHOT. Please Help 100 degrees.

I just noticed this today as I was playing Metro 2033. I felt the heat coming out of my case and thought it was unusual so I decided to take a look and found that it was the GPU.

I am not too knowledgable when it comes to PC games as I just recently restarted playing on PC and shooters. I usually play sports games on consoles.

Here are the pics. What can I do to take it down or is that normal?

Ow HOT, what is your case? Do you have any case fans? Open up your case and turn it on... is the GPU fan spinning?

Woah, that's not good.

Probably a broken fan or loose heatsink and very f'ing old thermal paste. Time to get a screw driver and your hands dirty.

Hey thanks for reply real quick at this hour guys. My case is Cooler Master 690 II Advanced. The GPU fan is spinning. I think it is the thermal paste most likely.

However, my case is pretty dirty as I haven't cleaned it in 6months (1st thing I am going to do in the morning). I think the the air circulation is bad probably because of that but the GPU heatsink has got to be bad for it too get that high even with some dust in the case.

What are the proper steps to fixing the GPU heatsink? Sorry I have never done and it will be a first.

This should give you a pretty good idea of what you need to do.

All you need is a screw driver, 80% alcohol, some qtips or coffee filters and a new tube of thermal paste.

Cleaning the case does help though lol, get a compressed air can from best buy, walmart, etc.

You will want some compressed air to clean out the case, then you can use thermal paste you want to clean the GPU die with isopropyl alcohol then use the new thermal paste and reapply the heatsink.
