The Asus website makes it seem that the only difference between the two DVD-ROM drives is that the newer one, the P2, has QuieTrack. The P2 seems to have very good rip speeds as seen in this CDR Info review. I couldn't find a similar review for the P1. Does anyone know if the rip speeds are comparable? Or better yet, if someone has the P1 can you run a speed test with something like Nero's CD/DVD Speed or DVD Info Pro and post the results? Thanks in advance.

I have the p2, it was a bit finicky before I updated the firmware. Now it's fine.

The reason I ask is because I can get the P1 at a local computer store, but no one locally seems to carry the P2. I had a bad experience trying to order a different DVD-ROM drive online recently so I'm VERY hesitant about trying to order the P2 online as well.

Does no one have the P1 installed currently?

Some subsequent searching lead me to find out that apparently the E616P1 is the same as the Pioneer DVD-121 drive and that the E616P2 is the same as the Pioneer DVD-122P drive. So I would assume that there's more than just the QuieTrack difference.

Since no one seems to have the E616P1, does anyone have the DVD-121 or one of it's rebadged variants? I know the different firmwares would net different results but it might give me a rough idea of what the drive is capable of.
