ASUS DVD-ROM DAE not working as fast as it should be?

Hi guys...
I have an ASUS DVD-E116 ATA100 16X/48X DVD-ROM drive, and I'm only getting CD DAE speeds of at most 10X. Is this normal? It seems that people are getting a lot more performance from their drives than me...
I have it connected to my secondary ATA33 IDE channel, I don't think the ATA33 actually matters right? I mean...how fast can the drive be? I don't think it'll come close to, much less exceed 33MB/s...

Is the dma check box checked in device manager? Some older systems have problems using dma, but it might be worth a try.

Well, I think it is. I'm on Win2K, and in my device manager, both my devices(0 and 1) in my secondary IDE channel are set at Ultra DMA if possible, but device 0 is PIO mode 4 while device 1 is Ultra DMA. I have an ATAPI zip100 drive connected to the same IDE channel as the DVD-ROM, and IIRC the DVD-ROM should be master and the ZIP slave, which means the ZIP's running at PIO 4 while the DVD-ROM's running at UDMA. I might be mistaken though...it might be the other way round, I'll check on that.

Even if it is though, how can I change the PIO4 to UDMA? The option isn't available in Device Manager(its already "DMA if available"). In BIOS maybe?

well.... DAE speed also depends on the software you use.
Audiograbber, EAC, CD-DAE etc. has different methods of extracting so the speed will be different

I found out what the problem was...its my onboard ATA33 controller that's holding it back. I just purchased a no-name ATA33 IDE controller with a Silicon Image 0680 chip, and hooked up my DVD-ROM drive to its secondary IDE channel, and boy what a difference! What was topping out at 10X before is topping out at almost 40X now! Even track 1 of my CDs are topping out at almost 20X, which is very impressive!
