ASUS DVD-ROM/ATA133 controller problem with EAC.

Hi guys...
I have an ASUS DVD-E616 16X DVD-ROM drive that's connected to my SilImage ATA133 controller(IDE1). It was originally Slave on the motherboard's IDE2, with an Iomega 48x CD-RW as Master. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8PE667(i845PE chipset). Everything was fine.

Since I added the ATA133 controller and made the ASUS DVD-ROM drive as IDE2 master and a spare 20GB HDD as IDE1 master, I have been unable to use EAC 0.9beta4 to extract audio. Whenever I try to access the CD from that drive, the program would hang, and Win2K's Task Manager is unable to close the program either, which means I have to reboot. Everything else works properly - playing of CD audio, etc. The tracks appear within EAC too, but I just can't rip them, since it'll hang.

I have installed the latest Adaptec ASPI layers(4.7.2) and my Iomega drive extracts perfectly, and I have enabled digital audio on the ASUS DVD-ROM drive too. I have also previously used the same ATA133 card with the same ASUS DVD-ROM drive on my previous system and it worked, so I know the combination is compatible. What can be the problem then?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You may want to try installing WinASPI (best being from Ahead (i.e. Nero)

WinASPI Version: 2.0.1.59

Place the winaspi32.dll in the Directory where you have EAC installed.
That way no other driver will not affect it.

What's the difference between this and the Adaptec ASPI layer?

Its more Compatiable with EAC than Adaptec's driver.
It's important to put in the EAC install folder so as not to
disrupt any other burning software you have installed.

OK, but do I need to install it otherwise, via a registry entry or whatever? Or do I just place it in the EAC directory and expect it to work? btw I did a search of WinASPI on the Nero site and strangely just about all the search results refer to Adaptec's ASPI layer rather than Nero's...wonder why is that?

Thanks again...

All you have to do is place the .DLL in the directory.
EAC will then use that driver.

The references you came across are more than likely
about ASPI layer for Adaptec's SCSI controller's and primarily
issues with Plextor SCSI CDRW drives.

Their were alot of issues with that combo.

Let us know how you make out.

Just tried it, doesn't seem to work. I downloaded and copied the file to my EAC directory, and continued using the "External installed ASPI" under EAC options, but the same thing happens. I can see the tracks on the CD in the ASUS DVD-ROM, but once I try to rip any of them, the ripping dialog appears, and it just hangs there, and then I will not be able to close EAC, nor access the DVD-ROM drive, causing my Windows Explorer to become flaky, forcing me to reboot.

My CD-RW drive on my motherboard's IDE1 works though.
