I bought an Asus 9280S video card. It is GF4 Ti 4200 w/128MB ram. They give you several software utilites that apparently are buggy or don't work at all. There is a program called Smart Doctor2 which doesn't work at all with Win XP Pro apparently. I get these error messages in a pop box titled "START SERVICE"

1) The specified driver is invalid (This after using the latest drivers from the Asus website)

2)Can't start kernel mode driver service.

3)Monitoring DLL loading fails....program terminates

The second issue is the Asus control panel software. There is a drop down to "update" drivers over the web. That doesn't work either. error message as follows:

1) Can't start kernel mode driver service.

2) Can't install kernel mode driver EIO.SYS

3) Cannot load driver

4)no cards.....( yes the card is plugged in correctly)

Either their software is not compatible with XP or something is wrong. I don't know which at this point. I went right to ASUS download site and got the latest version of drivers and Smart Doctor 2 which is an overclocking utility I believe. The drivers loaded fine but the smart Doctor2 program wouldn't so i've got think it's the software.

Any advice or help fellas I'm totally lost at this point?

Uninstall all those drivers. Download and install the current drivers from nvidia (Detonator XP), or get the 40.72 drivers, or the 30.82 version (after 40.72, the Detonators disable some systems' ability to play DVDs depending on the type of TV chip on the card; the 30.82 drivers are generally considered to be the best for performance and stability).

Thank you so much for the information. I'll go to the Nvidia site and get the 30.82 drivers first.
