Looking to upgrade my processor on an A8R32-mvp rig before chips are no longer available.

Trying to decide between remaining officially supported dual cores available, the X2 3800 which is at newegg for $129, the Opty 175 which is $225 or stepping it up to the fastest and not sure supported Opty 185 for $335.

If the Opty will work as they say in the Valley for sure, for sure.. I might grab one, if not then its either the X2 3800 or Opty 175 or other, if someone might recommend?

Thanks,

Mike

It should be fine. Worst case it doesn't recognize the model # string and calls it an unknown CPU instead of an Opteron 185

Do you overclock at all? If you do then I would suggest going with the budget 3800X2 or even the 175 and giving it a little boost. Either processor should reach the 185 speed while saving you a good bit of money. I just sold a 3800X2 that did 2.67Ghz out of the box.

Agreed. My 179.99 opty, blows away even the 600 dollar FX cpu's now.

Proof

However dont expect your CPU to OC as well as mine tho :p

If you don't overclock, the 185 is a great chip. I have one in my ASUS A8N5X, so you're higher end ASUS board should have no issues...
