Asus DirectCUII Cooling Efficiency

How efficient are the dual slot coolers on the Asus DirectCUII cards? I'm thinking about getting an Asus GTX 560 Ti 1GB, but the aftermarket coolers are just so darn expensive (at least in euros). The case would be a CM HAF 912 Plus if you want to factor it in.

I have seen many reviews on them and they always keep the cards much quieter/cooler than the reference designs. From what I have seen the DiretCUII coolers are top of the line.

Well, they'd be pretty lousy if they didn't beat the ref coolers, wouldn't they. 😀

I'm just more concerned with how much difference there is between them and, say, top end coolers from Arctic.

560GTX TI is a rather cool running card to start with. The ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI coolers are pretty much comparable to each other. I wouldn't fiddle with the Arctic Cooler after market cooler simply because of the stories of the ram/memory controller heat sinks falling off. Zalman makes a cooler with an integrated memory cooler, but most only use stick on heat sinks for the memory. I'd definitely stick to the cooler that comes with the videocard, especially these days since there are awesome designs to choose from.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards that option as well. My current card is a GTS 250 1GB, so don't blame me for thinking about aftermarket coolers... the stock cooling solutions used back then weren't that good. 😉
