Hello,

Any sign that there will be an Asus DirectCU titan or 780 GTX?

First off, before I get to my real post, I'd like to say that you've been here for over 3 years and you ask a question that probably as been answered many times.

Okay, from what I know (maybe wrong), there won't be any custom Titans. And yes there will be a 780GTX (check the stickied thead).

Wow - why would you take the time to belittle me when you have no information? You could have just skipped this thread.

Would you not consider this EVGA liquid cooled card a custom titan?

But feel free to go to the post where my specific question about an ASUS DIRECTCU titan or Asus DIRECTCU 780 GTX is definitively answered.

There might be some custom 780's, but I haven't heard any rumors of them yet. Anyway, the stock Titan cooler is awesome so you won't really miss a custom cooler on the 780 if you ask me.

You've been here nearly two years. Averaging 16 posts per day hasn't taught you much in the way of manners.

OP the GTX Titan is only about 20-25% faster than a HD 7970 GHz but cost 50% more and i don't think its worth the extra cost.

What are you system specs and what res do you plan to play at ?

Thanks - my only problem with the stock 780 is the noise. I like my systems to be VERY quiet. The DirectCU is one of the quietest coolers available and is only two slots. If I SLI I still would probably replace my motherboard but it would be doable. So I really really want a quiet 2 slot cooling solution without having to go liquid cooling.

At launch, no custom Titans were allowed. The two potential Titans and the cooler you linked to are not really fully-custom, but simply reference Titan PCBs with custom coolers (or just the custom cooler in the case of the last link).

There have been rumors of fully custom Titans, but nothing has tangibly appeared yet.

Thanks for your post. I'm not set in stone yet.

I have
990x CPU w/ scythe ninja cooler
Gigabtyte x58 UD5 motherboard
12GB of RAM
CMII Case
Enermax 750 power supply
9265 LSI controller
4 3TB spindle drives and 2 SSD 250 drives
SB x-fi sound card
I currently have a FROZR 580 gtx

I really prefer a free slot between cards and since I don't have an XL-ATX motherboard or case. I'm not sure about going SLI with my current config. I would have to replace my case and motherboard if I decide to go SLI which isn't out of the question but costly. If I put in a GA-X58A-UD9 for SLI, I'd probably get the CM HAF X.

I'd like to play at 2560 x 1600 but that is way beyond what my 580 let's me play crysis smoothly. I can play at 1920 reasonably well. Crysis3 is unplayable unless I really turn it way down which defeats the purpose of playing an eye candy game for me.

Thanks. I just don't want a stock cooler with the stock card. I don't really have strong feelings about the PCB being custom but I do have strong feelings about it being VERY quiet and well cooled without the hassle of a custom liquid cooling solution that I have to implement with pump, radiator, fans, tubing, regulator etc. I'd want to keep it down to 2 slots per card as I use other slots on my motherboard.

In the UK Titan is £800, 7970 Ghz is £320 That isn't 50% more unless my maths is worse than I thought, 50% more than £320 =£480, 100% more=£640, 150% more=£800.

It's 2.5 7970's to 1 Titan cost wise but not in performance.

i think a HD 7970 GHz or GTX 680 would be fine for you or just wait until the new GTX 780 which is rumored to be 20-25% faster but cost alot less than the Titan

EVGA has announced a new cooler for a product that is also being released on May 23. So there will be custom coolers for the gtx 780 it seems.

I like the Titan blower, materials, lexan window. but will read with interest the pro/cons of alternatives!

Hmm, interesting news on the custom cooler from EVGA. I hope EVGA has something good up their sleeve - to be honest, I haven't been too impressed by their prior foray into custom cards. They're great if external heat output (versus heat inside the case) is essential, but other than that....they really seem lackluster compared to the Asus DC2, MSI Twin Frozr 4, and Gigabyte Windforce. I really hope EVGA steps up here, because their older stuff hasn't been amazing compared to the competition...hopefully they can change that.

Thanks. I really like to crank up the graphics. There are some parts of Crysis three that even bring the Titan under 30FPS. And yes, I want EVERY bell and whistle turned on :)

If I could get a 690 with a custom cooler it would be great as well.

If I build a new PC, ideally I'd put one card at the top and one at the very bottom which would be possible in an extended case such as the haf x provided the motherboard supported such an arrangement. I'm not sure if motherboards support that as they used to want you to use the top PCIe slots for SLI.

Anyone know if it is OK to use the top and bottom slots for SLI in a 2 card SLI config?

I don't see the sense in paying $2k for some additional eye candy in one game (or even a few) when less than 1/2 of that ($300-$600) will handle "virtually" everything else.

Of course it's to each his own, but if we agree to do this by voting with our wallets, it will just continue to escalate.

There are a couple of problems you'll likely face:

1) Trying to find a SLI bridge that long:
2) For the cheaper MBs that have 3 PCI-e x16 slots all wired to the CPU, the bottom one will almost always be limited to x4 even if the second slot does not have a video card in it.

Thanks. They do make 140mm SLI cables although I'll have to track one down. I found them mentioned and pictured a few places but haven't found a source in the US.

900x900px-LL-becaaf7f_DSCN4122.jpeg

I'm probably going to get an ASUS or Gigabyte motherboard - with 4 or more x16 slots. I'm just not sure if I'll be allowed to SLI a 2 card config using the top and bottom slots.

Well, you are going to really feel the pain then, since you can theoretically do SSAA pretty much indefinitely. x16 SSAA will certainly bring ANYTHING down to it's knees even at 1080p; it would be like rendering at 4K and then downscaling, on top of lighting, shadows, and particles which are already hard enough. It would be impossible to do multimonitor or 1440p.

Basically, give up on the idea of EVERY bell and whistle. You'll never get it. Additionally, you can easily purchase a pre-built water cooler if it means that much to you or build your own water cooling loop.

I'm not certain with Nvidia, but I have a couple of computers that I use for mining with AMD video cards. The motherboards are Gigabyte Z77X-UD5Hs with 3 PCI-e x16 slots all wired to the CPU, the bottom x16 slot is right at the edge like with the Maximus. The driver would allow me to enable Crossfire but I don't have a bridge long enough to connect them. The top card runs at x8, while the bottom runs at x4.

Thanks - I think I could live with 780 SLI (for now :) )

Water cooling is a possible solution. If I can do a top and bottom slot solution as in my diagram I'll have plenty of airflow so I could do it quite nicely with fan coolers (such as the directcu) with a lot less hassle.

From what I've read on other sites, I should be OK with 8x PCIe 3.0 SLI config.

I wish there were more XL-ATX motherboards. I think I'll limp along with a titan when a 2 slot air cooled solution becomes available such as a directcu or windforce and wait for a newer 2011 XL-ATX motherboard to come along for lga2011 and get an x99 motherboard.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I just hope they come out with a directcu titan or directcu 780 soon. I'll have to see the benchmarks on Crysis 3 to decide which is better bang for my buck.
