I'm about to build a budget Athlon64 s754 machine for a friend, and I'm planning on using the Asus K8N for the motherboard. At first, I didn't think twice about what type/brand of memory to buy since there's no QVL listed on Asus' site listing for the board. However, after I downloaded the manual, I noticed that Asus does have a QVL for the board. I've never used Asus boards before (never happened to have the particular options I wanted in a board at various times), so can some previous or current Asus owners tell me how important it is for one to restrict his/her memory options to the QVL's? I'm thinking of one of the following DIMM modules, none of which is listed on the QVL. Also, I chose Asus this time because Asus specifically states that this board supports Cool 'N' Quiet and because of the price.

It would be the "safest" route, but sometimes the QVL misses on other RAMs that are compatible, and hence not on the QVL list.

I have. Easiest thing is to email ASUS sales and ask them. Then post their answer here to share the wisdom.

I've emailed Asus several times (sales and tech support), and I've never gotten a response.

I use OCZ DDR333 and OCZ DDR400 on my 2 ASUS mobos. I have never found OCZ listed on any ASUS product list or site. But I've never had any problem with them; obviously compatible.
