Ok I've been using this X1900GT ever since I sold both my 6950s to take a break from PC gaming and wait out for 28nm cards. But ever since the Steam Sale I picked up a couple of games on the cheap and well, my current card doesn't run many games well at all, even at lower resolution. I even downgraded from the 3007 to the U2410... you don't want to know how this card fared at 25x16!

Anyway, I can't hold out for 28nm so I'm looking to get the best bang for the buck and buy something cheap and good enough for native 1920x1200 gaming. Note I am in Canada, and here are the two best deals on a 6850 that I have found for today (prices can change almost daily or weekly). I can't decide and would like some input please. FYI I haven't read any reviews about these cards yet, I'll do that later tonight.

XFX Radeon HD 6850 (HD-685X-ZNDC) - $164.99 (w/ free shipping) (includes free Dirt 3)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814150516
+ $8.25 taxes
= $173.24 total
- $30 rebate
= $143.24 final price

ASUS Radeon HD 6850 DirectCU - $159.99 (includes free Shogun 2)
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=56356&promoid=1304
+ 5.99 ground shipping promo
+ 8.30 taxes
= $174.28 total
- $20 rebate
= $154.28 final price

There's also another XFX card (HD-685X-ZNFC - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814150505) that is $164+11.50 shipping - $25 MIR ... not sure whats the difference is. I'm leaning to the other XFX because of the free shipping.

Ok, now given these prices ($10 difference) which would you choose? I hear XFX rebates are hit and miss so I might not even get that rebate. Then there is also the deal with XFX removing voltage control on their non-ref cards and so I just kind of have a bitter taste for XFX in general at the moment, and also user reviews saying the fan is noisy.

My system is designed to be really, really quiet and my case fans + fan on the H50 are barely audible, you don't hear it unless you're specifically looking for it. Noise is a great deal since that tiny fan on the X1900 is way too loud, it drives me nuts. So the card has to be basically inaudible at idle, and during gaming it shouldn't get too loud. I have a headphone/headset but I don't use it for gaming anymore when I quit WoW. I also don't have the volume loud since my room is the living room and I don't want to bother my family.

Then I hear about the ASUS DCU being a better all around card. Not sure if it has voltage control or not (can anyone chime in?).

So I'm torn... which card would you pick and why? BTW I am going with AMD as I will be using the Displayport with my monitor. If Nvidia had a comparable priced/performance card with Displayport from a reputable manufacturer, I would probably jump on that.

I'd go with the XFX. The lifetime warranty should add resale value.

As far as the rebate goes, just make sure you fill everything out correctly and keep copies of everything. It's typically consumer errors that stop rebates.

There's a roundup for 6850s:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4002/amd-radeon-hd-6850-overclocking-roundup-asus-xfx-msi

The data pretty much corroborates what you mentioned about asus being the more balanced card. I had trouble with my XFX MIR for my PSU despite the fact that my galaxy rebate (that I sent at the same time) went through for my video card. The three year warranty isn't as good but I think it works if you're going to get something from the next generation. The asus card also has voltage tweak.

As for an nvidia equivalent, I think zotac makes a 460 with displayport but I'm not to keen on their reliability compared to xfx and asus.

To sum things up, I would go for the asus.

I am this close to picking the Asus, I've been reading good things about the cooler on it. Not being able to adjust the voltage kills the deal for the XFX.

I'm too lazy to read that whole wall, but I thought you might like to know this. I got the Asus recently, and their rebate gives you 30 days from purchase to have it postmarked as well as the option to expedite it for $2.00. I took that option and got the rebate (gift mastercard) in about 2.5 weeks. It might be different for Canada though? Also, it is quiet compared to other louder cards I've had like an X1800XT with blower.

Bought the Asus. I'll post a mini-review on how the card fares in my case setup (temps with case fans on different speeds), how high I was able to overclock, etc...

Comments like this are on par with "what color PCB is best?"
LOL

Actually its a very valid statement.

I've owned a few XFX cards over the last few yars and they all had very cheap components and the 4890 had some major coil whine. All the higher tier(like DCU)Asus cards i have looked at used more mid range comonents not bargin basement brands like the XFX.
