I just purchased an Asus CUV4X MB and a Celeron 533a chip to go w/it. Without having to adjust the voltage I'm able to overclock to 800Mhz w/o a hitch.
My problem arises when I try to go any higher than 800Mhz or when I try to raise the voltage past 1.60.
At anything higher than 1.60 (including 1.65) the system freezes at the desktop even when I havent altered the multiplier from the last setting which was stable. I'm not at home at the moment but if I
remember correctly, I even attempted to go to up the voltage to 1.70 w/the chip still clocked to 533Mhz and still froze at the desktop (this is by memory and this last bit may be incorrect although I know for
certain that I cant do 1.65 at 800Mhz).
One odd thing I noticed is that my BIOS is reporting that my CPU temp. is right around 55 degrees celcius and my MB temp is just abou half that. When I uses the Asus probe utility or some other utility I
downloaded (dont remember the name) the CPU and MB temps show up as almost identical at right around 28 degrees celcius. I'm baffled as to why these temperatures would differ so greatly.
My old setup was an ABIT BM6 MB w/a Celeron 366 overclocked to 550Mhz that ran stable for about a year. I never checked the temp. w/a windows application but my BIOS always reported it as being
around 35 degrees celcius.
Any information that would explain why I cant seem to raise the voltage and or explaining why the software and BIOS report such differing temperatures would be greatly appreceaited. I'm thinking that I
may have a bum processor or MB on my hands. What do you think?
Thanks, Eli
P.S.
I've recently read something that leads me to believe that its possible to run the FC Celerons on the BM6 motherboard. Does anyone know if this is possible? Can you point me to a good article regarding how to get it running?
Thanks Again!
