Is the ATA100 IDE port backward compatible to slower ATA33 & ATA66 HDD's? Also, can a CD-ROM or Burner be connected to the ATA100 IDE port? These issues are covered only vaguely in manual.

Yes, the ATA100 standard is backwards compatible with ATA66 and ATA33 drives/devices.

You can connect an ATA66 or ATA33 drive with no problems. You can also connect CDROMs and IDE CDRWs with no problems as well.

Make sure that you have the latest Chipset inf Drivers; the Intel ATA Storage Drivers are optional, and it's best that you avoid them if you wish to install an IDE CDRW.
