Help!, I have the Asus cusl-2 MB with bios version 1006. Whenever I am prompted to restart my system after installing software or hardware, or anytime I just want to restart my computer, it hangs on the "Windows is now shutting down" screen. I am using Windows 98se OS. P3 866 processor, Nvidia GeForce2 32meg. video card, and the Sound Blaster PCI64 sound card. I also have a Netgear NIC installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Dave

I have had this too with 1006 but only when overclocked at 933, bringing the O/C back to 924 stopped the problem.
I also found that there was no advantage in pushing 133/133/33 for 933 with a p3700 as far as speed cpmpared to 132/132/33 with the 924 with 1.75v, one runs completely stable at 924 the other requires a voltage of 185v

I've had this same problem using both version 1003 and version 1006 of the BIOS, maybe it is something to do with Windows 98se. I am not overclocking the processor. This is a fresh build using a Maxtor ata100 HD at 7200rpm, and 128MB of pc133 RAM.

This fix applies both to the SBLive and the Creative PCIxx line of soundcards, on CUSL2 family motherboards:

Enable LPT Interrupt Sharing in the SB Emulation Device in the device manager.

Disable the DOS SB Emulation in the device manager (optional).

Set IRQ 5 Reserved to Yes in PCI/PNP Resource Exclusion list in the BIOS.
this one is the most important item.

Disable Legacy USB in the BIOS.

Andy, what does disabling USB legacy support do? Will it disable the USB ports? I could've tried, but I'm now at work.

There are some issues with legacy USB support mainly with Win98(SE). Legacy USB Support is usually for USB keyboards and older USB devices that are not fully compliant with present standards.

Mainly this setting ensures that USB keyboards will work in DOS. Since everyone uses Windows, not much point. I would think that most people would have fully compliant, modern USB devices as well.

Thanks Andy, I`ve been fighting with this issue ever since I installed this board. Now if the cold boot problem could be fixed that easy.....
