Just can't seem to be able to install both internal and external SCSI devices on the 815 chipset. Have tried all of Intel's drivers, Adaptec has no answer, Asus says it's not their fault, and Intel hasn't replied yet....anyone have a clue? Specifically, I can run all my internal Ultra SCSI devices, although Win2k will remove them at random and warn me about the negatives to removing a storage device. If I connect my external Ultra device (scanner) up, I get the dreaded IRQ_NOT_LESS_THEN statement from NT4. If I disconnect the internal devices, and leave the external device connected, all is well again. Benchmarking the drives shows below average throughput...26Meg/sec random with 64K bits and it drops to 17Meg/sec with two drives going...I used to pull mid 30's on a bx board. This is the second Adaptec 2930 card.....thoughts?

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions. Thank you very much for talking me out of an i815 mainboard! 440BX is old, yet still beats i815's. If you leave out the fantastic FSB's possible with i815's. I'm sick of overclocking, anyway.

If I am not mistaken you can only use 2 connectors on any Adaptec card at a time unless your card is dual channel. I ran intot he same problem with my setup. I had internal CD + CDR on the regular SCSI channel, 1 external SCSI Jaz Drive on the external connector and 2 HDD's on the Ultra160 channel. Everytime I tried to boot up I would get odd error messages from termination being incorrect, to devices not showing up. I called Adaptec and was told that although the card supports speedflex which determines what peripherals are hooked up to the card, it did not allow the use of more then 2 channels at a time. I eventually had to go with a USB scanner (which thankfully my Epson already was), and a SCSI to USB adaptec for the Jaz Drive. I was not too thrilled about this and made an official complaint to Adaptec about it, of course I was told to buy a dual channel card (which would have set me back another $200.00 bucks). I just left the setup the way it is now and it's fine. I tried under Win98SE, WinME, Windows NT 4.0, and Win2K, same errors same problems.

I agree, I dropped off the i815E bandwagon and went and bought a Soyo BX based board, I like it alot better then the ASUS and it's a better overclocker beleive it or not.
