Asus CUBX and CuMine Celeron -- as good as slot 1 board for OC'ing?

Ok, question for the CUBX owners:

Do the Celeron Coppermines overclock better on this board, since it has a socket, than on a Slot 1 with an adapter? I have a CuMine Cel2 533 running at 800MHz on a Soyo 6BA+III right now, but I am about to receive a 566. I would like to run the 566 on the CUBX (working on a deal right now, trying to alleviate some of my worries first). However, if the 566 does not want to run at 850, which I won't know until I receive it, I can always shove it on the Soyo and use the 533 on the CUBX.

So, should I expect that the 533 will definitely run on the CUBX at 800 because it does so on the Soyo (at 1.65v, possibly lower)? I won't be greatly upset if the 566 does not run at 850, but I will be upset if I cannot have either Cel2 run at 100MHz.

Thanks!!

well.....

on my old abit bh6 rev. 1 with the latest bios (nv i think) and a generic slocket i was able to run my 566 at 892.5 perfectly stable.

on the cubx, i had to jump through rings to get this thing overclocked to 850 using windows 98se. firstly, there seems to be some sort of incompatibility with windows 98se acpi bios drivers and the bios on the cubx (even the beta which i am know running). you have to do an update drivers on the bios in the device manager and use the plug and pray failsafe driver to get the cubx to stay at 850.

and that's if your chip can do it at 1.65 volts or below. anything above this voltage caused mine to lock up tighter than a drum even clocked at 566.

i am now running a beta windows me without modification at 850 and it is running great. i will next format and load 2000 to see if is stable too.

in conclusion, if you have a slot 1 board, buy a slotkey and overclock this chip as far as it will go. if you have to buy a new board, you may want to wait until windows me comes out, or they get a better bios for this board (if this truly is the problem).

have fun,

dirty

Here's the situation I'm facing right now:

I have two systems, one with an Abit BP6 and the other with a Soyo 6BA+III. The BP6 is inoperable right now because I think one of my two Celeron 366's is now cooked celery. I have no idea what happened, but a chip that was stable and cool (<37 C) at 550MHz and default voltage locks up after about 20 seconds consistently. My other 366 runs solidly stable at 550MHz at 2.2v if I use my Sparkle 235w power supply -- the Antec 300w won't push it (piece of trash).

The Soyo is running a Cel II 533 quite comfortably at 800. It's been cranking Prime 95 for nearly a week nonstop at 1.65v. It may go lower than that, but I was having trouble with my slocket and just plopped it at that voltage to be sure the current wasn't the problem.

So, I just bought a 566 Cel II from Buy.com though it might be weeks before it arrives (if ever, for that matter). Since I only have one 366 and new guaranteed ones are around $65, it didn't seem sensible to me to drop that money on a chip that probably won't last much longer and since I have yet to use the dual chip capability of the BP6 (though I plan on installing Win2K shortly). In any event, the BP6 is destined for my wife's computer where dual chips are not exactly needed.

My plan was to sell the BP6 and the 366, then buy the CUBX [have a nice deal pending] for my 566 hopefully running at 850. The Soyo would stay as my wife's system running at 533/800. I will be running 98SE for games and possibly 2000 as well, with a passing chance at Linux tinkering.

Any comments?

"you have to do an update drivers on the bios in the device manager and use the plug and pray failsafe driver to get the cubx to stay at 850."

can you please explain how you tweak win98 in detail, how do you update bios driver in device manager? coz I got the same problem as you.

THanks!
