ASUS CPU Level different max OC than last time?

Using ASUS Rampage IV Extreme BIOS 1305 my max "level up" was around 4.2ghz. I had to flashback the BIOS to 1101 to work with my hackintosh; now the max Level Up is 4.01ghz-ish.

Why the change? Is that just a BIOS version thing, or is something else causing this?

Most likely a bios revision thing. ASUS really adjusts quite a bit with their BIOS revs in my experience with them.

It's pretty cool that ASUS engineers went ahead and decided to up the max automatic OC by those 200MHz...

What I'm reading into it is something like: "hey, 4.2GHz"ll never hurt anything on these chips, 4GHz was way too conservative; lets just go ahead and build the higher level of OC into the BIOS from now on"

This from folks with vastly larger data sets and knowledge than I'll ever have.

4.2 is weak sauce. 4.8 is where the bacon iz.

The Asus engineers don't have to deal with warranty RMA's for toasted Intel CPUs or borked OS installs...they set those auto-clocks based on what they think the mobo's themselves can handle amperage and voltage wise before burning up and becoming an RMA issue for ASUS.

I used to trust my asus motherboard to overclocking my 3770k automatically to 4.3ghz but after a couple random restarts,i overclocked it on my own to 4.1ghz.

Still need to figure out how to stably reach 4.5ghz.....
