Asus booting problems

OK, so I put together a rig with some old parts, including an old Asus P5AD2-Premium and Celeron 341. The PSU is an Antec 430W, which I tested with a PSU tester, and the voltages are in spec.

The first time i tried to boot with an old x700 gpu in the pci-e slot. I wasn't getting any VGA signal, and the fan on the card was making a lot of noise. I tried it in another rig, and still no signal (although I only tried the BIOS, and it was in the second slot - not sure if that works).

So I assumed the problem was the video card, and I just bought a new MSI 4350 from NE. I put that in and still no signal.

I cleared the CMOS, and tried plugging the rig into my TV with HDMI rather than VGA, and I was getting an intermittant signal. Sometimes I'd see the boot screen, then it would disappear (thought the usb keyboard would work). Sometimes I'd wouldn't get anything, and the keyboard wasn't lighting up.

Any thoughts? I've tried moving the RAM around, but that doesn't seem to help. I assume this is a mobo issue?

First I would set BIOS to default values. If fans continue to run, but no video, then the PSU and CPU are probably okay. If there is a shutdown for over heating CPU, the fans will quit too. Check out the RAM with Memtest 86. Of course you will need to have video to see the BIOS, and to run Memtest. If you have the User Guide Manual, check your RAM is on the QVL. You can see the Manual at the ASUS downloads site.

Yeah, I cleared the CMOS, so that should have reset to default. The RAM definitely works with the board b/c I used this combo for over 4 years on my old rig, but they've been sitting around for a little while.

The fans are all running, and I've gotten the BIOS to show up intermittently, but then it disappears.

EDIT: OK, so I realized I wasn't clearing the CMOS correctly (I was doing it with the power still plugged in) - so when I get home, I'm going to try again.
