ASUS board / ATI All in Wonder Sound Issues

I just built a new system, including an All in Wonder 7500 video card. I am running that card's audio out into the line in on my on-board sound set. For general TV watching, this works great and the sound is excellent. However, when I RECORD television, or when I turn on the AIW's "video on demand" (Tivo) function, the sound gets very, very low. Turning the volume up doesn't help much and causes a lot of hissing in the speakers.

Similarly, the PC microphone I have plugged into the sound "mic in" records at a barely audible volume. I have maxed the mic volume in the audio controls, but that didn't help. I can tell that the mic is "hot" because of some feedback I've gotten when tweaking the controls, and also by tapping the mic on my desk. But, it just won't record well at all.

The specs are below. Got any ideas?? Thanks!

Asus A7V266-C board with an Athlon XP 2000+
512 PC2100 DDR
on board audio: C-Media CMI8738 6-channel audio controller
Video: ATI All in Wonder 7500 (AGP, 64meg)
Running Windows XP Home

Had the same problem with my Asus dual P3 board and Radeon 7500. Works like a chamr when Im just watching television, however, when we turn on record, the sound goes way down.... but Im using klipschs on that system and they work really well just pumpin them up when recording.

Anyone with a solution or a reason to this problem though, I would be happy to know.

LordAccord,

Did you try a different sound card? I put my old PCI sound card back in and disabled the onboard sound, but this was an even bigger problem. With that, I had good TV sound, but ALL OTHER system sounds (including the CD player, mp3, etc) disappeared. I'm wondering if this is an ASUS issue or an ATI problem? The fact that my microphone input does about the same thing makes me think its something in the sound set. I'd be interested to know if you had any luck with another sound device.

Thanks...

Well, I have no onboard sound on that particular system, I've been running an SB live 5.1 with the same problem.

Dunno.

Sounds like you need a new soundcard. I'd recommend an Audigy, but if you're really into it, you might also want to check out the Audiophile 24/96 from M-Audio. If I were building an HTPC, I'd use a card like this.
