Asus board and speed of ram?

Hey there,
Have an asus p4g8x deluxe motherboard in the system I'm currently using (put together myself). Think my memory is shot, as the program on www.memtest86.com is telling me errors are popping up. So, I'm looking to replace what I've got. On Asus' website, they say under the specifications for my motherboard that it does pc2100 ram. Now, fired off an e-mail to the people at asus asking if it would be worthwhile for me to buy faster ram, would the motherboard be able to handle it? They simply replied "yeah, it would". But, failed to answer if it would be worthwhile for me to purchase faster ram, what speed it would handle maximum, or if it would just underclock it and make buying faster ram pointless. Any ideas or insight you guys can offer is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Holy smokes, Asus answered a tech-support email! :Q

*faints*

The P4G8X Deluxe is officially designed for PC2100 and PC1600 memory. If you install, say, PC3200, the motherboard is going to either downclock it to PC2100 or run it at the speed that you manually specify, depending on whether it's set for Auto or User Configured. You might want to PM THUGSROOK for some opinion here, since he has had the P4G8X and experimented with it a lot.
