ASUS B650EF- When I disable the onboard graphics in BIOS, it wont boot into anything once I save and restart PC? I have to reflash the BIOS to get things running again? I need to disable the onboard graphics to try and solve an Acronis Boot Media problem as Acronis generates a fault about Frame Buffer Parameters, and the solution I read was to disable one of the Graphics adapters.

First thing that comes to mind is a corrupt download. Delete the file and try again. It also could be something with the USB drive. Most boards these days though also have a live update feature from the UEFI when connected to the onboard Ethernet port.

I wish it was that simple! I have tried various Thumbdrives and Rescue Media builds, they all failed. Thats when I searched for the issue with Acronis, and it is a known issue. I just need to disable the Intel Onboard GPU without it locking up the PC. Why cant I? Maybe Im in the wrong place in the BIOS or there is something more i need to do in the BIOS additionally?

Well, the snap shot I posted gives me the option to select either PCIE GPU or Intels Onboard. PCIE is selected as per snap shot. The Integrated Option is on AUTO by Default, when I select DISABLE and Save and restart, PC id frozen, wont go into BIOS. Do you know of a setting elsewhere that I have potentially missed?

Well, don't disable it or make sure you love the video cable to see what's happening. I would just leave it on auto and move the cable to the dgpu.

Otherwise there are other programs you could use for backups. For windows I use paragon and in Linux just use rsync.

The whole GPU issue is just a can of worms that doesn't need to be opened here. Chances are it's a board issue causing it and well that's a pita to replace or pick a different one.

I dont know if moving the cable is going to resolve it but might be worth a shot, getting to the back of the PC is a pain to do that, dont wanna do that everytime I do a backup or restore. Eitherway, I have been doing trials all day on alternative Backup softwares, most really sucked! I wont bore you with the details. Like I said, Acronis had a 2 part fix, I got files changed, just needed to disable the Onboard GPU,,, how hard could that be right! LOL

Well, you have to, to switch between discrete GPU and onboard.

Also, B650E is an AMD AM5 platform chipset. What's with this talk about Intel onboard graphics?

What version of Acronis are you using? And what exactly does the fault text say?

I was up to the 2021 version, but because of the file backup format differences (.tib vs .tibx TIBX being much slower) I went back to 2016 version to continue using .tib format.

Error is:

62646: Acronis True Image: error "Video mode setup error: Error 0x1400006: Invalid video framebuffer parameters" at computer startup

Its resolve is stated here:

The last thing Im am going to try tomorrow is Method 2, nothing else worked, and I have a couple more options to try other software "AOMEI" would be next on the list, but I already have paid licenses for Acronis, dont really want to pay more unless forced too.

The reason I asked is because I've encountered the exact same error with some newer Intel onboard graphics and method one worked perfectly. I believe they were all laptops, so I didn't have to worry about multiple graphic adapters but this article says nothing about disabling any hardware so long as you replace the correct files before making your rescue media. I dislike using the Windows platform Acronis TI because at least half the time TI says it can't lock the source disk (for 2019, anyway). The Linux based one is much more reliable.

You followed all the steps, verbatim, as listed in method one? Step 7 is critical to success. Well, all steps are, of course, but you must recreate the media after replacing the files.

As far as following the steps verbatim, no, but only because in my 2016 version, I didnt see an option to turn off "Active Protection" But i only needed to do that so I would be allowed to replace those (2) files that I downloaded and overwrite the existing, which I was able to do. I then recreated the Rescue Media and booted up with it and had the same error. (I dont use the Windows GUI to do backups, i always only use the Rescue Media to do Backups & Restores. I always uninstall Acronis once I have a function Thumbdrive).

As you mentioned above, there is no mention in that article about disabling one of the GPU's, Sorry, that info was in the Acronis Forums discussing the same Error I was getting:

Which linked me to this:

NOW, with all of that said, I was successfull today with the following approach and am now able to boot up with Acronis 2016 Thumbdrive and create backups and do recoveries in much less time using the .tib format vs .tibx. My tests for the same 530 GIG file showed it took just over 3 hours to do a backup and a restore of the same file using .tibx format vs only taking 1 hour to do the same using .tib:

Yeah,, what a pain in the A$$ this all was! Thanks for the help. I still dont know why I couldnt disable the other GPU, I had done that easily on previous builds, but i really dont care at this point I guess.
