Hi guys ,

Just received my brand new AC68U, i have literally just done the quick setup to get the internet connected and wanted to hookup my OpenVPN (IPvanish) settings.

I have managed to get the connection to "connect" with the blue tick.. but i am getting no internet at all ?

Can anybody please help me, i am terrible with networking.

To confirm the OpenVPN connection is successful.

As a first step ignore the VPN aspect, follow the basic instructions of the Router and make sure that you have a solid functional Internet.

Only then try to configure the VPN service that you want to use.

Hi there,

Slight update , i found a guide that said i needed to set the DNS to not automatic and add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 < and it now works !

However , my Download is 50mbps , which is great (max connection before was 53) but my upload is now 0.18 vs 20mbps before... any ideas?

Presumably that's a bottleneck on OpenVPN's side of things? Does your upload work ok with the VPN client disconnected?

Hi mate I can confirm my isp is working as it should also the vpn via the pc client is working perfectly, it must be a setting on the router? I have no idea what to look at

If an unencrypted connection is fine, and your PC running the encryption/VPN Client is fine then yeah, it's probably the router.

Most desktop/laptop CPUs these days have dedicated encryption engines, and can tear through this stuff without much impact on speed. Router CPUs, by and large, are at a disadvantage. That said, the AC86U's CPU is pretty beefy for a router, and should be able to do a lot better than that. But if you've got QoS or the file sharing/server enabled (or other features that eat CPU cycles) it might just be overloaded and giving up.

Are there some CPU/RAM stats visible in the router management page(s)? If you're running out of ram or pegging your CPU at 90%+ when doing OpenVPN upstream traffic, that's your answer.
