i finished putting my new AMD system yesterday
Asus A8V (Rev 2)
3000+ (90 nm) processor
Corsair 512 MB (PC-3200) RAM
WD 160 GB SATA HD

The problem is on starting the system i see my HD is not getting recognized. What could be the problem ?
I have hooked my HD to SATA port (VIA). Do i need to change anything in BIOS settings ?

When you are installing windows a dialogue comes up on the bottom of the screen that says "push F6 for drivers" then you stick in a floppy with the drivers. You can get them off the CD make sure you get the right ones, there should be two one for raid and the other I think says something like Sata-Ide that is the one I think you use....
Hmmm just read your post again, are they not even being reconized by the bios?

Yes, you NEED to load SATA drivers for the VIA chipset as hawk described. The SATA drives will be seen by the BIOS but not by Windows. This is not an issue with the NF3 boards.

Now while installing Windows XP i get an error saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" whereas on startup of computer (BIOS) i see the scanning for HD and it's present. I am stuck.

I came across the same problem when I built up a new machine with ASUS AV8 and AMD 3500+ .
How can I let the BIOS read the driver of SATA disks before any OS installed ?

I don't understand !

as far as I know, there is no SATA HD recognized in BIOS.
You should intall the driver when os installing telling to press F6,and the SATA controller will recognize your SATA HD.

OK, this is know as the F6 method...most mobo retailers offer intructions, or even better, a wizard to make you a floppy disk than can be used for windows installation....this is needed because SATA isnt "native" yet...meaning SATA is still an external device, much like a videocard or a sound card, unlide PATA devices. They will be native in the next year or so (NF4 might have it as native with command queing and SATA2...) so until you get a new mobo, you'll need to let windows know what you are using.....sucks doesnt it? It is the same way with RAID controllers typically...I use two WD 74GB 10K RPM Raptors in RAID 0 so I know what it is like....

you should point to the right driver
8237 should be something like "via..."
I installed one with a kt600 mb.
The driver is in a floppy.
I think it is the same with cd-rom.

Actually, you can't use a CD-Rom to do the F6 method...look up the manual on your SATA controller and it will either tell you what files to use, or where to find a wizard that will load them on a floppy for you....
