Asus A8V ethernet trouble

Using the onboard ethernet on my Asus A8V. Every time I turn the comp on, the LAN status icon reports that it is not able to find a network connection. If I unplug the router for 10 secs, the ethernet recognizes it and works fine. Is there a way to help it recognize the router initially upon boot without having to unplug the router?
