I have the above MB and I'm running RAID zero on the Promise RAID controller. I bought a 250 Gig Western Digital drive. I'm trying to install it on the VIA controller and it will not work. I'm trying to install Windows 2003 server on the new drive. I have pressed F6 during boot and tried every driver on the MB cd. After the first restart while installing the OS I get an error saying the computer has stopped the installation to keep from damaging your computer.

The VIA controller doesn't like single drives, it wants to play the RAID game. Can I suggest using a PATA drive, or else get a cheap PCI SATA card to host the 250GB WD?

If your RAID0 were on the VIA controller, then you could switch the Promise SATA controller to pure ATA non-RAID mode in the BIOS under, what is it, Onboard Peripheral Device or something. And then it could host single drives as such. There is a specific Makedisk.exe utility on your A8V Deluxe CD-ROM for making a diskette with the ATA-mode Promise drivers.
