Hi,
This is my first post on these forums; so let me start by sharing the following success story.
Just assembled a new PC and have been running for 2 days now:
Asus A8V Deluxe Wireless Edition rev. 2.0 mainboard (out-of-the-box BIOS 1007)
AMD socket 939 3000+ Winchester 90nm CPU
Zalman 7000B copper heatsink with integrated 90mm fan + extra Zalman fan controller to lower rpm
2 x 512MB Corsair Value Line CAS 2.5 memory sticks
ATI X800 Pro 256MB AGP video card
IBM 40GB 2MB buffer ATA100 disk, master on pri-IDE (temporary, hope to replace with faster soon)
Philips ATAPI DVD-ROM and CD-RW, master on sec-IDE
Antec Sonata case with built-in Antec 380W silent version single-fan PSU
US Robotics 805416 PCI Wireless card capable of 125 Mbps (towards US Robotics 808054 Access Point)
Viewsonic VX912 19" LCD 12ms monitor
Microsoft wireless optical tilt USB mouse
Generic PS/2 keyboard
There is no floppy drive (hope boot from a USB key will be possible, test still pending)
There are no SATA drives connected yet (waiting for WD to launch new raptor soon)
Running XP Pro SP2
No overclocking.
I did have 2 problems:
The first problem was the infamous freeze-ups after about 5-10 minutes. These dissapeared after I changed jumper on the Philips DVD-ROM ATAPI drive from Cable-Select (CS) to Master.
The second problem was the Marvell LAN connection randomly reporting "there is a cable unplugged". This would only happen if I enabled the Asus PCI Wireless card. I removed the Asus PCI Wireless card which came with the mainboard and installed instead a US Robotics PCI Wireless card and all works fine now. Everything stable for 48 hours and fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Flirty.
