need a little help with two questions.

1. am a newbie about to embark on my first rig. planning ASUS av8 rev 2.0 AMD64fx-53, GeForce 6800 ultra256, and 2 x 512 OCZ PC3700 gold rev 3 . with all the problems with the ASUS boards would it be in my best interest to get the revision 2.0 version because it is now very hard to find on pricewatch and I cant find it with Wi-Fi. It would seem logical to get the revision board with many kinks worked out, but 95% of the A8V deluxe's are listed without the rev 2.0

2. also recent articles and forums have made me a believer in the newer OCZ PC3700 Gold Rev 3 ram. it sounds good, yet no OCZ ram are recommended on the ASUS web site as tested?? is it safe??

any help with these questions or advice on my proposed specs on the entire rig would be appreciated.
thanxxx in advance

I would be kinda hesitant about that RAM... From my own experiences, and many of the ppl on this and other forums, the memory controller of the A64 seems to be a bit picky when it comes to RAM. With my board, you pretty much have to use memory on the recommended list. As for yours... you're gonna run a risk especially with PC3700 (damn what frequency is that anyway 500MHZ??) And why dont you give Asus tech support a call, they might have some insight.

actually anandtech just reviewed this OCZ gold rev3 and gave it great ratings with the fx-53. i also called ASUS and they agreed they only test a couple of companies' ram and only list those that they specifically tested

Really, well i say go for it then!!! Oh and dont forget to buy some ridiculous power supply, lol, cause you're gonna need it. I think you might have to go 500W or higher.

I believe 2.0 = AGP/PCI lock so that would be a HUGE plus if you plan on overclocking at all.

Also, ASUS WiFi is just ANOTHER slot on the motherboard. It doesn't come WiFi capable, you have to buy the WiFi add-on, which is probably more expensive than a PCI board. (I don't know I haven't really looked into it, since I'm all hardwired).

My A7N8X-E boards have the wifi slot. It just sits there like the old modem slots or whatever those weird slots were that nobody used.

They do not have a Wireless v2.0 board yet, but as I said, I don't really think it matters.
