ASUS A8V Backplate Removal

Zalman's GIANT 7700 supposedly needs to have the Asus A8V backplate removed to work. I've heard people talking about using a hair dryer, but I'm worried the heat might damage the board. Also, is it worth going out and buying Arctic Silver when Zalman already included thermal grease?
 
Use the hair dryer. It won't hurt it. Keep the air stream focused on the plate. After 30 seconds or so, grasp it by one edge and pry it off. Don't use a tool.

AS will get you a couple or three degrees lower temps at most. Either the Zalman or AS will be fine.
 
I have a small butane torch...my sister-in-law uses it in the kitchen for stuff. Will it be too strong? I can focus it much better on the plate, but I am afraid I might heat the plate too much. Any thoughts?
