Asus A8V 4*512 MB problem

Hi, I just recently installed another 2* 512 MB of generic samsung ram into my PC, and now my memory speed cannot be increased. When I was running 2 * 512 mb, I was able to set the divisor to 5 /3, which multiplied by my HTT speed of 260 gave me a memory speed of 433. At this speed, everything ran fine and was stable. With the addition of the additional gig of ram, it seems like the divisor is always at 1/2 of my HTT, so the maximum ram speed I get at a HTT of 260 is 130 (memory speed of 260). It doesn't seem to matter which divisor I choose, or even if I choose auto...I always get the same speed...Any one have any ideas? I am not running into any stability problems, and the motherboard is running in dual channel. I am using a AMD64 winchester 3200, multiplier 10, HTT 260. If I leave everything on auto (eg let the board decide), I still get a multiplier of 1/2. The memory is also set at 2T. I also ran a Sandra memory benchmark test, and I am scoring around 3000 megabytes per second on dual channel...which sorta confirms I am running at a speed of 130. Also, I am using the newest bios version for the board.

a lot of times 4 sticks causes big problems with the memory controller in the cpu. what is the cpu? if its older than a venice core, winchester or newcastle, or clawhammer, you really wont be able to overclock it at all.

Hi there,

I solved the problem...it was an incompatible stick of ram...it wouldn't operate in dual mode even with only one other stick...it would set ram speed down to 125 mhz..which was very strange.., and wouldn't let me clock higher..

Thanks anyways!

from my use of asus a8v i found that it has quite a good support for 4 sticks of ram with a venice, i was able to get 216mhz stable (ddr432), while on my dfi i cant get ddr400 stable with the same ram cpu drives etc.

The memory dividers on the asus are pretty bad though, the 3:2 one acts like the 166 divider, which it shouldnt as there IS a 166 divider above it that can be selected (the 166 acts more like a 180 😛) A8V is a good board but wierd in its own special way 😛
