Has anyone tried to install an Opteron 185 (E6) (939) into an ASUS A8R32-MVP? If so, how's it running? Also, does the CPU get recognized in the bios screen? I know that any Opteron > 165 isn't listed as being supported on the ASUS website for this mobo, but then again, they stopped qualifying CPU's for this mobo ages ago. I'm guessing with the latest bios (701) and the fact that lower speed E6's work, that this should work. I know it works in the lesser board (ASUS A8R-MVP)!! Any info would be great - cheers.

The processor will run fine in that board, just make sure you have the newest bios installed.

Reporting back. The install was swift and clean; the results were impressive. I had to do nothing to the o/s (no reinstalls, configs etc. etc.). I managed to keep an entire system out of the landfill. Incidentally I upgraded from a 3200+. The machine runs cooler believe or not, and the overall snappiness of the system is readily apparent. It benchmarks about 3x faster than the previous proc. The bios also seems to unlock some of the server features of the cpu (should you need to use them). In a nutshell, in case anyone is interested...

The Opteron 185 works perfectly in an ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe.
