I am coming from an ABIT AN8 SLI board, and I am seeing a performance hit with this board, compared to that one, not extreme but around 12 FPS average loss in Oblivion using an X1900XT single card no crossfire running 1920x1200. I pretty much use this game as a benchmark. It's sketchy/drops framerates in parts inside dungeons (if anyone is familiar with this game) as before I would consistantly get around 60-85FPS and now it can get to 85 but can drop to 30-35 at times and is usually averaging 50-55.
I have checked and a BIOS update won't do anything for this particular issue. Should I try to overclock it? I'm not familiar with overclocking but from the reviews I should have no problem doing that, especially in the anandtech.com reviews of this board. I know there are presets in the BIOS and if someone could help me out with that, that would be great. I also realise that SLI and nForce4 are more mature platforms so that could be it also as far as the performance aspect is concerned. This is also the first board I have seen since pre-2000 boards that does not require chipset drivers, which I thought was kind of odd.
Also I noticed it's only seeing one of my SATA drives, the boot drive. There are 2 hooked up, but not in a RAID. BIOS detects both drives but windows does not in My Computer. They are identicle Seagate barracuda 80GB SATA drives. I am probably overlooking something also here.
1st drive Device manager says disk 0 - type: basic - status: online - partition style: MBR - capacity 76309MB.
2nd drive Device manager says disk 1 - type: unknown - status: not initialized - partition style: not applicable - capacity 76317. Both are hooked up to the red 1&2 SATA inputs on the board.
This board has been getting excellent reviews for speed, I did alot of research before I bought it. But I have to be honest and say I'm slightly dissapointed but not to the point of where I'm going to return it, it's not a deal breaker. That's my only real gripes with the board right now that I can think of, other than that it seems to be doing good so far. Oh, just curious if you guys think my PSU is strong enough to run 2 X1900XT's.
Any insight?
