Hi people.

Newbie here.
Ok i just Purchased a Thermalright xp120 to fit to the Asus A8N-SLI
Yes i did mange to Get it fitted to the board after some messing.
If you people want to fit this Heatsink to this board you cannot have the Corsair
EL Pro as the sticks are to tall and catch on the Heatsink.
I have Pictures here of the heatsink fitted. Any Questions Just leave me a message

Cheers All Yonz^

I had that board for awhile....i couldnt take it anymore, but back to the heatsink......the problem i had was that the 12v 4-pin line was in the way of the heatsink. I shaved the heatsink down about 2mm on that side and JUST got it to fit, but with my new board, dont have that problem.

Yes there seems to be problems every were with this board. I just been Tweaking with the Fsb. i have increased it to 228 and i set the multiplayer to 11 and the mem to 400. Been lookin at few other settings that not sure about. In jumper free settings in bios there is 2 settings that i need help with. PCI Express clock and Pci Clock. The Express clock is at 33,33 and ther PCi clock is at 100? Has Any one got a Simular Spec system and can tell me some bios settings.

Thanks Again lads Yonz^

Nice Work. i would like to hit that if possible.
What cooling was you using at the time. Could You throw a few settings for my bios that will help me overclock in a reply that You had. Or what you think my System will handle.
Volts , Timings Etc

I have almost the same setup with you Yonner.
I fitted the XP-120 the opposite way and I didn't have any problems with the 4pin 12v connector.

Now onto the OC. It seems to be pretty hard to OC this mobo at least for me. I have followed all the directions here by reading many helpfull posts (GuitarDaddy's posts rule :p).

Currently with the 1004.001 Beta bios and 1.55 vcore (max setting in the bios) I am at 2420Mhz with 11 Multi x 220 HTT (4x HTT multi) and 1:1 (DDR400 at the bios) . Memory configured @ 1T and 2.5-3-3-7. This is completely stable.
It seems that whatever I try I can't go beyond this HTT and remain stable in Win XP. The momeny I increase it I corrupt my windows installation and after 1-2 restarts I can't enter into them and need format/reinstall.

I've eliminated both my ram and cpu as the possible problems because even if I boot at DDR200 memory setting (eliminating possible ram problems) or with a very low multiplier like 7 (eliminating possible cpu limitation) the same instability happens. The obvious answer to this is to lower the HTT mutliplier to 3x or 4x but I have already done this.
And the really strange thing is that Memtest is completely ok/no errors with HTT up to 241. Maybe there is something wrong with the hard disk not functioning ok with high HTT. Which can't be as the pci and pcie clocks are locked (I have set the 33.33 option in the bios).

When I bought the mobo I thought ok 240 max HTT is not that bad. But 220 limit is pretty bad I think and I am considering changing to DFI nf4 Ultra-D. The good thing though is that the board at stock and at the above settings that I have now is completely stable and mind you I even have a Maxtor 300GB NCQ drive which works fine as long as you use the latest nforce drivers (6.39). Oh did I mention I have an Audigy 2 ZS and a dual rail psu? :D

Does anyone have any suggestions on this "problem" of mine?

You won't believe what I just found!
The HTT multiplier on the 1004.001 bios doesn't work as expected! All the time I had it to 4x and today I decided to install ntune in my system just to see what it is. To my suprise I saw my HT to 1100. I had my HTT set to 220 as I said above. That means that the multiplier was actually 5x !!! That's why I could't get beyond this HTT as multiplied by 5x it would give me HT 1100+ which is way above what the board can handle (HT 1000).
I reflashed the bios and now the HTT multiplier works as expected. I managed to hit 310 HTT in windows which is more than enough. At last I can now try to find my cpu and memory limit. Well I already know the second one as this board won't allow memory to run on more than 240-250 1T.

So before you start upping your HTT make sure with nTune that your HTT multiplier works and don't let the bios foul you!

I also have my XP-120 facing the other way (with the heatpipes towards the RAM) and it fits much better. I have my RAM in 1 and 3 and I can still take it out if I want. Also no problems with the 4pin plug.

I'm really wondering why people are reporting so many problems with these boards. I have been running very stable since day one with the latest 1003 BIOS. The 1004 is still beta IIRC so of course you're going to have some problems. The only thing I'm not happy with is the nvidia drivers.

You have 4x512MB in there? Read the manual...it says you will only get DDR333 unless they are single sided RAM.
