Is it enabled in the BIOS? Did you install the driver? If you did install the driver, then re-download the driver and triple check to make sure it is the correct one. Also if you open the properties tab for any device that has an exclamation mark it should provide you with an error code number.

You can get it there or it could be part of the nFORCE 4 chipset. If it is part of the nFORCE Chipset then go to nvidia.com and download the chipset drivers.

My recomendatinon is to first download the nforce drivers and then let me know how well it works after trying both RJ-45 jacks on the back of the motherboard.

Do use the nVIDIA network instead of the Marvell Yukon 88E8053. The Yukon is attached to the PCI-express bus, but nVIDIA GbE is connected directly into the north bridge and has a shorter route to take, also the nVIDIA GbE provides you with a Hardware firewall that the Yukon does not provide. nVIDIA GbE is also hardware accelerated.

That all depends on what version is currently installed and what kind of CPU is running on that motherboard.

My no answer comes from the support of a CPU that you do not have, if that's all the update was for then it is not worth it. Most bios updated these days are for the support of newer CPU's, but after looking at version 1009 and seeing all the fixes improvements they made to it, I would say yes this is a medium priorty bios update. A four and a half on a scale of ten (ten being important update)

No question is a dumb question. Just add me to your buddies list and Private Message me any time you need an answer.

A NIC is the acronym for Network Interface Card.

download the Marvel Yukon driver for your onboard lan with the link someone up there provided. you can check your BIOS version in the BIOS. hit DEL after you reboot when prompted. i can't recall exactly where in the BIOS it was at, but check the bottom option on the first screen you see.

His motherboard has two NIC interfaces and uses two differant chipsets to get the networking job done, so he needs two differant drivers from two differant sources. One is the nVIDIA Based and the other is the Marvell Yukon 88E8053. The Marvell 88E8053 should be used as a backup network device in the instance that the nVIDIA GbE fails to operate. THe nVIDIA GbE should have lower pings and CPU useage.

You need a floppy drive to update the bios. Do you know your DOS commands?

Make sure you find out wich jack is the nVIDIA networking and use that one for your internet. After you have found the nVIDIA networking RJ-45 Jack, then if you need to install the Marvell driver to get rid of the "?" that still remains in the Device manager.

The only USB drivers avalable are the ones that come from Microsoft. Those are standard and almost no one writes them for Windows USB Controller Hardware.

The bottom line is that you can go with out the BIOS update. Since an improperly done BIOS can destroy a motherboard I recommend that you abstain from doing so untill you better understand what is happening. You could also go with out installing the Marvell Driver if you want, but just make sure that you have it downloaded and burned to CD for when you need it.

EDIT: it might help if you made a shortcut on your desktop to devmgmt.msc it saves me a lot of time.

I find the LAN setups confusing.
A lot of people say NOT to install the ActiveArmor/Firewall software.
I don?t need it as I use a router (hardware firewall) and like Zone
Alarm (software firewall).

Can I use the nVidia LAN and just not install the Armor/firewall stuff?

I.e. Connect to to the LAN2 port.
In BIOS On-board Devices Configuration.
Onboard\GBE LAN1 [Disabled]

MAC\GBE LAN2 [Enabled]
Onboard LAN Boot ROM [Disabled]

Then clean install XP Pro SP2
Run nForce4_x16_6.85_winxp2k_english.exe
Skip the Armor/firewall (IDE too) choices.

That will work?

That should work, you do not need the Boot ROM enabled; but it does not hurt to have the active armor running.
