Hi Guys,

Having trouble installing my OS on my new computer. I have:

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard
FX-57 Processor
SATA1 - WD Raptor 74Gig
SATA2 - WD Raptor 74Gig
SATA3 - WD Caviar 250Gig
SATA4 - WD Caviar 250Gig
SATA Raid Port - I have a Plextor SATA2 DVD Burner plugged in here.

When I try and install windows I got a BSOD, with the typical bull troubleshooting recommendations such as do a virus check and a CHKDSK.

I rebooted and took a look at my Bios and my 4 drives are recognized but recognized as Third IDE Master, Fourth IDE Master, Fifth IDE Master and Sixth IDE Master. The Primary IDE Master and Slave as well as the Secondary IDE Master and Slave are all not detected. I am not sure how to change this.

I went into the Silicon Image RAID software to try and configure my RAID and all it sees is my DVD burner...no HDs. So I can't configure my RAID either. I am assuming Windows is having the same issue recognizing these HDs when I try and install, which is why I am getting the BSOD.

What do I do now? I am stumped. I have searched every forum I could find on the Internet and no one else seems to have had ths problem. I must really be doing something stupid.

Primary IDE and Secondary IDE are PATA ports on this mobo.... Hence why they have a slave

So I don't have to worry about those being not detected. But how do I get the SATA2 drives to be recognized?

Ok...I hit F6 during installation to install additional drivers but it only seems to allow installation from the floppy. I don't have any drivers on floppy (I am not even sure I hve them on CD). No floppies came with my MoBo or SATA Drives.

I beliee that there a section on the CD that came with the A8N32 called "Make Floppy". I'm not sure that this will fix your issue though. You may need to run the set-up cd that came with your SATA drives first to format the drives.

can't you download them from the ASUS site? Seems like they should have drivers for ya.

You will not be able to do anything UNLESS you use the drivers from the Cd that came with the motherbord... I learned this the hard way. Get a FDD ;)

RS,

A number of points:

1. If you are using the internal SIL SATA port for your DVD then you will need to change the Silicone Image Mode in BIOS from RAID MODE to SATA2 Mode >>Advanced Tab>>Onboard Devices.

2. As your drives are in the NV SATA ports they need to enabled and NVRAID enabled in BIOS first. >>Main Tab>>IDE Configuration>>

3. With these enabled exit BIOS (F10) and then hit F10 again when you see the prompt to enter NVRAID Set-up Utility.

4. Once in here set-up your RAID Arrays as you wish (the Motherbard CD has a detailed guide on NVRAID set-up and you should read this first).

5. Having set-up RAID arrays, you then have a choice on how to install Windows, as Windows cannot see NVRAID drives on it's own on install and needs two drivers to do so.

The options are to do the standard F6 and install SCSI/3rd Party Mass Drivers, for which you will need to have created the NVRAID Driver Disc from the Motherboard CD, or if you have no FDD then you should consider creating a Slipstream XP install CD with the Mass drivers included, as this way you don't need the FDD or F6.
