Not sure if anyone has seen this problem before, but when cpu is under load (games, winrar), the sound starts to static and buffer up. sort of like radio interference. Not sure if this is hardware or software.

thanks

I understand the static part, but what does "buffer up" mean?

With my previous system, I was using a Seagate Barracuda drive and nforce2 with Soundstorm audio, and never noticed any problems. When I switched to a new Hitachi drive early this year, I started getting static over the speakers, noticeable mainly when there was significant hard drive activity since it was sustained then. It was kinda fun in a way, "listening" to the hard drive reads and writes.

Did your problem just start or has it always been that way? It is in all likelihood a hardware issue, something is causing interference, but it could also be a driver issue. You might be able to resolve it by moving the sound card to a different slot.

Are you using onboard sound? I do hear occassional static crackles when playing resource intensive games on my board using the onboard sound.
