Hey!

I've got my old PC with a DVD drive, an 80Gb HDD, 2G of RAM, and an Opteron 185 Dual Core.

Problem is I can't boot up, as soon as I attach any of the IDE cables to the mobo, Primary or Secondary, the power to all drives die. Without the IDE cable attached to the mobo, everything powers up and I can load and unload disks and I can feel the HDD spinning....

I'm at my last stop before I throw this POS out the window. Has anyone experienced anything like this? The PSU is fine, the fans all turn on, the CPU fan is spinning, it's just the IDE devices that get no power, but only when connected to mobo......

The PC was working fine for years, all I did was throw in my old DVD drive, thing is, this happens with any drive, cd, dvd, hdd, floppy....all I have to do is unplug from mobo and voila, everything spins up!

??? Any ideas? Are the IDE ports on the mobo fried or something? I've replaced all cables, too, btw. No luck.

I will check ASUS FAQ's too! Thanks!

ASUS is no help, and the problem still exists. All the drives have power until I plug the IDE cable into the mobo port. Everything else on the mobo has power.

I don't know much, but I guess the IDE controllers are dead.
