asus a8n sli premium & raid1 on sil3114 slow?

Hi,

I have my new board for a couple of weeks now and set up 2x raid1 (mirror) configurations on the silicon image 3114 controller. 2 harddisk on channel0+1 and 2 harddisk on channel2+3. the problem is that my average read speed is 20MB/s, this is very slow.

when I connect all harddisks to the sil3114 controller without a raid array, read speed is around 50MB/s, wich is good.

anyone of you who have the same problems and or perhaps have a solution or can test there speeds with a legacy raid1 array on the silicon image 3114.

hardware:
asus a8n sli premium rev. 1.02 bios 1007.002 (beta)
sil3114 controller bios 5.1.39 and driver version 1.2.3.1
4x harddisks samsung sp1614n 160GB with a conceptronic sata to ide bridge (jumper on harddisk set as master)

I used HDtach 3.0.1.0 to measure the speed.

stupid me, I found out why it's so slow.

the raid1 array was rebuilding itself on the background. so it was doing a lot of hard work and this was confirmed with HDtach resulting in a slow read speed of 20MB/s.

how do you know if it is rebuilding itself, very simple. in the sataraid5 managment software the channels have a yellow (busy) color instead of a green (oke) color.
