Asus A8N-SLI Premium: Digital Ports for onboard sound not working!

ok I recently sold my X-fi as I figured the onboard sound for my motherboard was good enough for me. Now the analog ports work and I can get 5.1 that way but I would rather go the digital route. However plugging via coax spdif or the optical ports no sound is produced in windows and even when my pc boots up and gives me the "computer booted successfully" audio prompt over the analog outputs it doesnt work for the optical or coax digital outputs! I have tried different drivers in windows, the realtek and nvidia ones and coax and spdif just arent working! can you guys help please?
