I have a brand new Asus A8N-SLI Premium revision 1.02 together with an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego. I only installed a Geforce 7800GT and a 250 GB Hitachi SATA 3Gb HD. My memory is (for testing purposes only one dimm) Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 (tested with memtest86+) which is on the compatibilty list. My problem is this:

When I power up: fans start blowing, no POST, no bios, no beeps, no signals, no monitor signal.
My vendor says that the cause can be an old bios version which doesn't support my fairly new CPU. My question to you guys is: lets say they are right, would my motherboard just fail to start if the CPU is too new and isn't recognized by old bios? Is this the case with the Asus A8N-SLI Premium

BTW The AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego is supported from bios version 1.04.

I don't know if having the wrong BIOS would keep your board from posting, at all, but it's possible. You didn't say what rev your chip is. Asus's BIOS Compatibility page for your CPU lists BIOS rev. 1009 for Athlon 64 3700+ rev.E6.

Of course, the board may just be bad. If not, and it won't boot with your chip, you may have to borrow an earlier chip, just to get to the ability to flash your BIOS. Check with your vendor. They should help you, especially if you bought the CPU and the board from the same place.

Indeed, i bought CPU & board with same vendor. My board is on its way to vendor for a bios update.

Doesn't sound right to me. I believe the 1.02 version boards shipped with at least BIOS 1005, and the more recent ones have an even later BIOS than that.

I got my 1.02 MB last August/September and I had 1005 - no problems at all with Video/Post.

Are you sure you had all the power connectors hooked up ? There are two (third optional) that must be hooked up - 24 pin and a 4 pin by the CPU. The third (optional) is the EZ-Plug connector by the Video card slot (I've got my plugged in even though I only use one card).
Also don't forget that you should have a 6 pin connector for your Video card as well.

I've had my 3700 SD in the MB from day one with no problems and it was recognized fine.

My guess is it's either missing (or even incorrect) power connections or just a bad MB.

Ok, i got 3 power plugs inserted and also the extra pci-e powersupply on my geforce 7800. To be quite honest i dont think its the unsupported cpu either.. My board is going RMA and i'll keep you guys updated (think it's broken).
