Ok, I got my board back from RMAing a few days ago, and they said that theres nothing wrong with it. So i was like..???? There WERE problems with it...well so I hooked it up again and it ran better...like...no issues...nothing. Problems and solutions are as follows:

Infamous restart/POST issue: The comp would lag before POSTing...signal got lost from the monitor cable..but then it came back...only sometimes would it completely hang and not boot. A hard restart would have to be done. This still persists...hopefully Asus will come out with a fix becuase my memory is fine and so is my PS.

BSOD's: Well, so far, im going and usually I would have had a ton of them, right now, 0. I dont know what it is, but its working.

nVidia IDE drivers The reason for the hanging when windows was booting up was the CDROM drive that I had. It must not be uptodate to use the drivers so it hangs.

Internet problem...dropping of internet: This still persists. The problems seems as if the internet just ..crapped out..but then comes back...and sites like theinquirer.net, hardocp.com, and imdb.com have problems loading mostly ONLY on the nVidia LAN port. The Marvell Yukon port seems working fine, a little slow, but oh well.

Has anyone else experienced these issues and/or resolved them? Thanks

Uninstall the nVidia IDE drivers and use the Standard Windows IDE drives, this should solve your freezing at post problems

Download and install the Standalone kit 6.53 from the nVidia website, this should fix the NV lan issue. If not uninstall the Active Armor firewall, and use the windows firewall instead.

With the Marvel Port connected go to the Windows update site and scan for updates. You should find an updated driver for the Marvel port dated 05/06/05, this will make the marvel port act better.

I've had the A8N-SLI deluxe since mid December, if you have anymore problems or questions about this board you can PM me if you want

Good luck.

I uninstalled the nVidia IDE drivers and that fixed the problem, but I knew that...I thought the nVidia drivers helped things moved faster, I guess not. Oh well. As for the Marvell lan port, I just did the windows update and so far it seems allright. Those sites dont hang anymore on that port, but they still do on the nVidia one...Im currently downloading the standalone kit from nVidias site. Anything on the restart/POST issue? I have 1.11 the latest beta BIOS and it still does that..

Update: I installed the standalone package and the nVidia port seems to be running fine after I uninstalled the nVidia firewall...when It was active and installed, i had no internet. So Ill prob use zonealarm as my firewall.

Any POST solutions?

Thanks for the help

What are your ram settings? I'm not familiar with the Post problem that you having. but usually freezes, hangs or restarts are ram related. Run memtest for several hours to make sure your ram is OK. Did you resolve the problem with the CDRom? Are you overclocking?

List your system spec's, and ram timings and I might be able to help:)

Ok before I sent the mobo in for RMA, i ran memtest for about 6-8 hours and it turned up fine. I resolved the problem with the CDROM reverting back to the windows drivers. I am not overclocking. Oh, by the way, I just tried to run the Asus probe, and I got a crazy amount of errors such as: "Load ASUS.dll failed", "Monitoring dll loading fails" and I tried to resinall and it just doenst install...probably need to format.

System Specs:
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester
MSI GeForce 6600GT 128MB
Kingston DDR400 2x512 @ 3-3-3-8
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
80GB, 160GB, and 60GB HDD's
Creative CDROM
Samsung CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
Windows XP SP2
Windows IDE Drivers
nVidia 71.89 Gfx Drivers
nVidia Standalone 6.53 Drivers

Also, I updated the nVidia and Marvell Drivers and when the LAN is plugged into the nVidia port, every once in a while, AIM disconnects. This doesnt happen with other people, just me. Im not sure about the marvell as I am using that now. Ill see how that performs and respond at a later time. I put in a PCI net card and thatll tell me if the onboard LAN are damaged in anyway. Also, Ill have another comp up connected to AIM and see if that disconnects. I could be my router and/or ISP. But im really concerned about the restart issue. A lot of the times it hangs or seems as if its going to hang, then SURPRISE! it doesnt, but I never knew a comp this fast to hang and/or lag before posting. Hell, my P2 266 doesnt even do that for crying out loud. Why should my 64 3200+ do that? Anyways, im off. Thanks for the help.

By the way, my CPU voltage is 1.392, core speed is 2010.4Mhz, and HTT is at 201.0 Mhz. I have the 1011-001 BIOS (beta) (it still does the restart issue with 1008 so i just wanted to upgrade to see if they fixed it)

That restart problem is really strange! Since your ram tests out with memtest, I would next suspect the power supply. Power supplies that have too much fluctuation in the amps on the power rails can cause the symptoms that you describe. Also if the PS doesn't have enough amps to support the system you would get the same kind of symptoms. The biggest draw on the PS happens durring boot up. Just like most electrical appliances TV's, A/C's, ect use more power durring startup than at any other time. I would monitor the amps on the three power rails at startup and under a heavy load, using a multi meter if you have one handy. And if its a generic PS that came with the case, I would swap it out before I put another mobo in there. If the PS checks out it may be time to RMA the motherboard.

And yes Asus probe doesn't work with bios 1008 and forward. And once its messed, flashing back to an older bios doesn't fix it. Fortunately I found a link posted here yesterday for Asus Probe II. It works great on the A8N-SLI deluxe, and is actually nicer than the original. Search "Asus probe II" here in the motherboard forum and you should be able to find the link.

As for the PS, one of my friends said it might be that so I swapped it out with another one (mine is an Antec 480w True Blue PS My PS ) I put in a 400w PS that another comp had and it still did the same thing. Later tonite, Ill record with my cam (with sound!) the problem and upload it somewhere so you can see it for yourself.

Thanks for the Probe fix.

Well there is a solution to the PC Probe issue which occured after we all installed the 1008 beta. This problem has been solved in the PC Perspective forum. Probe now works like before.

Hmm, it sounds like a memory issue. Do you have two sticks? Can you take one out and then try with just one stick?

Ok im back home and im going to try with one stick. each stick individually. I will upload the video in a few min once I try this so you can see what the issue looks (and sounds) like.

New: I just tried each stick individually in slot B1 (as it is for single sticks) and both do the same thing. For a reminder, Ill describe what happens. When I do a restart, windows shuts down as normal. Then after about 10-15 seconds of shutting down, the screen goes black and the HDD light stays lit. Before the next step, the monitor signal gets cut and the monitor goes into standby mode(light turns orange from green) Next, there are sounds coming from each of the CDROMS as they seem to be getting accessed and their lights go on, all while the HDD light stays on. Then the POST beep sounds and signal comes back to the monitor(goes to green). This happens EVERY time I restart and sometimes it hangs and doesnt POST at all. I have to hold the button. It also sometimes hangs on cold reset button press (or it does the delay as described before). Now, my P2-266 doesnt have the monitor signal cut nor does my P4 2.4 Ghz comp either. So, Ill upload the video in a few moments so you can see. Its a mov so quicktime..yeah...

New again: Video for restart issue
I have no idea what the constant clicking noise is in the background but just ignore it, its not the comp. Around 31 seconds you will see the monitor light go to standby mode and about 34-35 seconds you will see it go back after the POST beep. I dont know why there would be a lag...Its a fast comp. Thanks for the help.

Another thing, could it be the video card at all? Just wondering as it IS a video issue, but im not sure. Just curious. For the night, ill run memtest86 and see how it is in the morning. Ill post the results.

One more thing, This board is freshly back from Asus being RMA'ed. I got it about 2 weeks ago from them and they said theres nothing wrong. <sighs>

I think I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the times, but sometimes after restart it just get stuck. I think it may be related to S!/S3 stand by modes. Can you try to switch them all off in BIOS to see if it is still happening?
