ASUS A8N-SLI EZ Selector Card Problem? Help Please

Hi,

It appears that the EZ Selector card is marked backwards or something. I can't get the system to boot with one VGA card in the PCI_1 slot and the selector card with the single video card mode selected. (Single Video Mode connector connected to slot) If I switch the selector to dual video mode then it single card mode will work. This is opposite to what is said in the manual. The opposite happens for SLI mode. Can anyone confirm this? I am also pissed that I can't get SLI to work with the selector set to dual mode as this should enable 8x + 8x. In SLI mode with the selector card on "single" the system shows the 6800 ultra as 16x in the nview properties and SLI is detected. If I switch the connector to "dual mode" SLI will not detect but in nview properties the system now shows the 6800 ultra is running in 8X which appears to be correct as SLI needs to be 8X + 8X. The only way I can get nvidia to detect an SLI setup is to have the connector set to single card mode but that sets the slots to 16x + 1x which is incorrect.

Any help please?
Can someone confirm this same problem?

i don't remember the solution, but a lot of ppl are having this same problem. search the forum.

Guitar Daddy figured out that sometimes the problem stems from an "Single Mode" entry in Display Properties.

So, Install both cards, boot your system, right click anywhere on your desktop and select Properties. This will bring up the Display Properties box. Now click the Settings Tab, then Advanced, then the GeForce xxxxGT Tab. When the Geforce box comes up, click the Menue Editing selection in the box at the left. Now put a check mark in the Enable Menue Editing box.

Next, go to Performance & Quality Settings and put a check in the Show Advanced Settings. Now scroll down the list of entries looking for the Hardware Acceleration entry, change the Single-display mode entry to dual-display mode.

This should get both cards working 8x + 8x.

OK here is my issue which slot do you put the card in if you are running only 1 video card? The blue slot?
or the brown slot? is the board set up by default for 1 video card or 2? On the board the vc selector has arrows for 1 or 2 vc's do you follow that I cant get asus to call me back it has been 3 days so far no phone call.

Thanks for the heads up, I will give this a try when I get home from work and post here to let you guys know if this resolves the problem.

Most of the boards I've heard about came set up with the selector card in Dual Mode. For single card use, insert the card in the top PCI-E 16X slot. The selector card should then have single mode pointing into the slot.

My issue: According to the NVIDIA properties screen, my 6600GT is running in PCIE x8 even though it's the only videocard in my system, and my selector is set to single card. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you set SLI mode in the BIOS to auto after setting the card selector to single?

I'm forced to run in the second slot at x8 because of a conflict with the new chipset cooler and NV5. In truth, it will make no difference in performance. Even AGPx8 has more bandwidth than any card can use today. AGP=67x8, PCIe=100x8

Take a look in the same place in your Display properties as I listed above to see if dual mode is listed instead of single mode.

Hardware acceleration is listed as single display mode. SLI link is set properly in the BIOS. I had already done both of these before posting.

I realize this makes no difference in terms of performance, the main thing is the principle of everything working right - if I need PCIeX16 one day, I'd like to know how to make it happen.

Okay just got home and trying what GuitarDaddy said to do, how do I change the hardware accelaration mode to Dual-Display Mode? It shows the value but I can not change it. Any advice?

Thanks everybody for your help. Cleared the CMOS and everything is now working except for my Audigy 2 ZS. Reboots everytime that card is installed. The saga continues.
