Hello all
I've been banging my head over this Asus A8N-SLI motherboard for months now, like 12 to be exact. I cannot seem to get the onboard ethernet to detect in windows xp. I bought this board used and it was in nice shape. The only thing I've done to it is install it and replace the noisey chipset fan with a swiftech liquid cooler. As soon as I booted up and tried installing the nforce drivers I knew something was up because I couldn't get any response from my network. Went to the device manager and the only items it shows under network adapters are 1394 Net Adapter and 1394 Net Adapter #2. There was nothing that says Ethernet controller or Nforce Ethernet controller like usual, nothing in network connection either. Tried installing and reinstalling win xp pro and home, AND even tried vista with same result everytime.
I've tried installing new drivers, old drivers, beta driver, plugging and unplugging the cable, enabling anything and everything that says ethernet in the bios and I'm at a loss. There is an option that says ethernet boot check or something like that and when enabled it freezes the post. I have a sneaking suspicion that the board might be dieing, the ethernet port is bad, or theres a jumper/ bios entry that I'm missing to enable it. This asus board has been working great for me with no problems other than this stupid ethernet thing. I have a netgear gigabit NIC in there now to bypass it but I'd like to get it out of there seeming it's right under my video card and produces alot of heat.
I've googled this and it seems like others have had this problem but no one has a solution. If anyone knows of a solution, a trick, or a reason why this is happening PLEASE let me know. I would love it if someone could link me to a program that can run full diagnostics on the board and tell me whats wrong or if the board is faulty. In my experience if a board starts doing weird things like this it is more than likly going to die in short order, but this thing keeps running.
Lastely when installing the nforce drivers I tick the ethernet driver in setup but it doesnt seem to install anything for it... and as stated in the title the port itself lights up when a cable is plugged in.
Please rescue me from this insanity
