Try this thread.

Also, here.

Nocturnal, I'm going to build a system that's quite similar to yours, and I have a few simple questions:

-Did you connect your HDs to the NV SATA ports?
-NCQ, did you enabled it?
-Did you ever get any error (i.e. file corruptions, BIO not recognizing the HDs) using this configuration?

Thanks.

I have teh board as well and have four hds on the nVidia SATA ports and a Plextor optical on one of the SI ports.

Never turned NCQ on as there is a negligible performance delta between the two, sometimes a decrease.

Edit: BTW sorry for taking the question as I know you asked Nocturnal explicitly but just sharing my experience.

ohnnyj, thanx for the reply.

So, your A8N-SLI D. has never given you any trouble(s)?

I know the file corruption problems can be avoided by disabling the NCQ, but what about BIOS not recognizing the HDs during booting?

I also have NCQ-enabled drives working fine on my A8N-SLI. I have BIOS 1006 right now and I have four drives on my NV SATA ports:

Two Hitachi 7K80 SATA-II drives running in SATA-II mode with NCQ, in RAID-O (OS)
One Western Digital 250GB SATA-I drive
One Plextor PX-716SA

No problems so far.

No problems whatsoever. I have two Raptors in RAID0 on ports one and two, another smaller Raptor on port four, and a 400GB Seagate on the third port. All were recognized and never were dropped. Granted three out of the four are not SATAII nor NCQ compatible the Seagate is and has always been recognized.

Hi

I have a question on how you got your plextor dvdrw drive to function correctly. You said it is connected to the Sil sata connector. What firmware version are using for the plextor, and how do you have the raid setting set up on the Sil. Do you disable the raid setting for the Sil raid in the motherboard bios before you connect the drive?

I am having a problem getting my plextor px-716sa to function correctly. I am using xp mce 2005 -- and it becomes unstable whenever I use the drive. Luckily I have an lg cdrw burner in the system as well (ide) that works fine.

I have 2 sata hard drives mounted, a hitachi and a seagate (80 GB and 160 GB respectively).

Any tips you could offer on your setup would be appreciated, as you are the first person that i have seen to get a configuration similar to mine working.

Thanks

I fixed this problem by using one of the empty pci slots to put in a recommended sata controller card. Once the regular drivers (included from adaptec) were loaded, all it took was 2 reboots to have the system working perfectly.

Now I have extra sata slots (2), and a working sata system with only one ide drive (an LG cdrw/dvd rom).

All is well for now.
