When coming up from a hard boot or restart my computer sits at the equipment detection screen for 1+ minute. It says it is detecting IDE devices. Once it does this, it moves on to another screen for about 20 - 30 seconds. Then WinXP boots quickly. I don't know how to get it to boot faster - any suggestions?

Thanks,🙁

Also, What drives are jumpered which way?? [does that make sense?]

What is your hw situation?
how many drives?
sata? ide?
etc etc

Devices are detected correctly in the bios...

I only have one hard drive...WD Caviar 120 7200rpm and one Artec DVD/CD both are IDE. The hard drive is set to primary master and the DVD/CD is secondary master ( I think that is what you mean by jumpering...if not correct me please.)

Thanks,

Try setting the drives as SINGLE if they are both on their own cable

This worked. Once I had someone explain what SINGLE was, I did it and it worked!!! 30 sec from 0 to running.

Thanks!!
