I have the Asus board and it if a good overclocker, but the DFI is a better overclocker especially for ram (more voltage and timing options). I've heard the DFI board is a little tricky to set up, but I don't have one so I can't verify this.

If you want a good stable overclocker with tons of features get the Asus. If you are a serious or extreme overclocker the DFI is the only option

The deluxe has 4 more SATA ports with RAID and has a larger accesory package with it(cables etc.). I've heard the non-deluxe version has a slightly more limited BIOS but I'm not sure about that. I have a Deluxe and am pretty happy with it.

Get a board in the LanParty series. It's a ~$50 difference and you'll be glad forever. I have both A8N-SLI Premium and DFI NF4 SLI-D, and DFI board gives much more solid feel, not to mention better OC'ing. A8N-SLI board feels flimsy compared to the Lanparty board. This is from a first-hand experience on both boards.

I have the SLI Deluxe Asus board and my other system is a DFI with a X2 4400, I game on my Asus system and it overclocks well not as good as the DFI, but it takes more time to set the DFI up when you are overclocking, I could get 3GHz stable with the DFI with my Opteron but I am happpy with 2.9GHz with 1.39V on my Asus board with a little better memory I am sure I could hit 3GHz with the Asus but I don't care to spend any more money.

In a general sense both the DFI and ASUS have about the same performance in stock form(unclocked). The ASUS has the 32x speed which you'll only see an advantage (only small gains so far) when using it at 1600x1200 or higher resolutions. The A8N32 has the newer power phasing thingie that probably makes power more stable supposedly(havent heard if its actually better than DFI or not). The ASUS also uses the heatpipe cooling for the chipset which is what many manufacturers are switching to. Other than that the two mobos are about equal in performance from the benchmarks I have seen. The ASUS is a good overclocker but the DFI offers more overclocking options and potential. A overclocking tweaker's wet dream. If you want serious overclocking potential then DFI is the better choice.

IMO what'll make people decide between the two is do they want that SLI 32X speed now or not. Eventually DFI mobos will offer 32x speed as well I'm betting.

hi all,

im new on here but have been doing some reading up as i am in the process of building my new system.

iv got my hands on an opty 146 0540 fpmw and am hoping to get some OCZ 2gb pc4000 ddr500 gold ram. (currently running an athlon xp 1600+ with 512mb ram, lol)

iv been looking round and narrowed my mobo choice to the asus a8n sli premium and the dfi infinity.

at the moment im not thinking of pushing it too far with the oc'ing, but if i get the asus will i be shooting myslelf in the foot if i decide to push things a bit further in the future (such as the ram) as i get more comfortable with it.

many thanks,
a.

ps. at the moment im swinging towards the asus, only thing stopping me is the power limitations on the ram. or am i just being picky??
