Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Overclocking w/ Opteron 144

Guys I have a Venice 3200+ that I haven't really overclocked yet as I intend to get a Opteron 144 once they are readily available. I was messing around just to get ready for it and I dropped the multiplier on my Venice to keep it near stock speeds, dropped memory and HT multipliers and locked the PCI-E and PCI buses and I went to town on the HT frequency.

I was able to get at least 340 on it from 200 stock before I stopped going higher. Now if at least 340 is stable with the Venice in spec, then the mobo should be able to get around that when I overclock the Opteron right?

Reason I ask is, a lot of the early reviews pointed out this wasn't a very overclocking friendly board. Of course VCore is limited to 1.55 and many of the DFI's features are missing - but 340+ on the HT bus basically means I can overclock any chip to its max (at 1.55V or less) right given I keep the RAM near stock and the PCI-E and PCI busses locked?

This will affect my decision on if I should get the 144 with the 9x and go for 2.8 or pay more for the 10x of the 146.

Thanks all!

Umm...what mod do you intend to use to make the 940-pin Opteron fit into the socket 939 of the A8N-SLI? 😕
EDIT: Nevermind...just saw this one is indeed 939 😉
Btw, my A8N SLI puts out 1.6v with the 1.55v setting...so at least a little more juice...

Yup, I was looking at the Venus 939 Opterons. I could have a FX-55 realistically at 2.6 😀. About the voltage thing, you're right, mine reports a bit higher than the set value - but I also don't know how much to trust it since the mobo reports all other voltages incorrectly compared to my multimeter.

Anyways, I just want to make sure I won't be bound by my motherboard on the 9x 144 overclock 🙂
